The Past Catches Up With You
OUAT Peter Pan Imagine
Prompt: âI know what I have to do. But going back means Iâll have to face my past. Iâve been running from it for so longâ & âOnce youâre grown up, you can never come back.âÂ
The sound if arrows flying through the air then hitting their target and the clashing of swords filled the area. âNice one, Devin. Now try letting go of the arrow when you breath out,â you instructed one of the Lost Boys. Devin wordlessly nodded and did what you told him, his arrow hitting the target dummy straight in the head. âExcellent work. Rufio, donât do such fancy moves. Itâs about hitting the target in the weak points, not showing off,â you commanded. âWhatever you say, mom,â Rufio sassed, ignoring your helpful tips. You narrowed your eyes at him and strode up to him, quickly knocking him off his feet with a few well placed punches and kicks. âAnd this is why Pan ordered me to train you boys. You guys are good fighters, but he wants the best, so you either listen to what I say or youâll end up worse than this,â you scolded the dazed teen. You walked away, towards Panâs second-in-command, and one of your best friends, Felix.Â
âNice way to show them whoâs boss, (y/n),â Felix complemented as he sharpened his sword. âThanks, Felix. These boys have sure have authority problems when it comes to someone other than Pan giving them orders,â you said, sitting next to Felix on a log. âThey listen to me, though,â Felix pointed out. âTrue. I have theory that they donât respect me as much cause Iâm the only girl here. And I happen to be one of Panâs most trustworthy,â you told the scar-faced teen. âItâs possible. The boys arenât too keen on newcomers. You being a girl doesnât make matters better.â You rolled your eyes; youâve been here for a couple of years, but time on Neverland was different than everywhere else. âIâve earned this position despite being a girl. They should know that Pan doesnât just trust me without a proper reason,â you said, crossing your arms in front of your chest. âSpeak of the devil,â Felix said, motioning his head towards a figure appearing from the green foliage.Â
Peter Pan stood to the side of the training ground, eyes intensely watching the boys as they practiced archery, swording fighting, and sparring. Authority and dark magical power radiated from his figure, his green eyes glowing as they seemingly stared into the very existence of his Lost Boys. He was expressionless as he mentally noted what the boys were doing wrong and right. The sight before you made you feel warm, but you tried not to show how the piper affected you. Said boy locked eyes with you, a smirk breaking out onto his lips as he strode over to you. âTired, love. Are the boys too much for you to handle?â he teased, raising one magnificently sculpted eyebrow. âMore like they canât handle me. Rufio over there is still bandaging his hurt pride when I knocked him to the ground for back talking,â you chuckled, eyeing said boy. He was grumpily pouting on a wooden log across from where you were. Peter found this rather amusing, a sly smirk on his face. âHis loss, love. Come, I think the boys had enough training for today,â he said, getting up from the log. He whistled loudly, getting all the, boys attention and told them, âAlright, boys trainingâs over! Get back to camp if you want your fill of dinner before its gone!âÂ
A stampede of hungry, teenage boys rushed towards the main camp, dirt and dust flying as they did so. You camly got up and followed the horde of Lost Boys, used to their frenzied antics. Peter walked alongside you, as you took your time walking the path back to the main camp. âIâm still surprised you can put up with our rowdiness. Being a princess and all, Iâd expect you complain endlessly about how âwildâ we are,â Peter said as you traveled through the jungle of Neverland. âHey, I was a rebel princess. If I wasnât, I wouldnât even be here,â you defended yourself, punching the King of Neverland playfully, but hard, in the arm. Pan allowed you to hit him, as you knew he could easily stop you, and playfully cried out in pain.Â
Before you were the first Lost Girl on Neverland, you were a princess, although not first in line to inherit your kingdom. Unlike the other inhabitants of Neverland, you were not from the Enchanted Forest or the Land Without Magic. You were a princess from another dimension, and you hated your royal roots. You hated the stuffy dresses, the countless rules, the strict and stone faced members of the royal house ... hell, you couldnât even talk to or hang out with anyone that wasnât humanoid or a royal non-humanoid from an allied kingdom. Like the monsters that were repressed by your people. It was suffocating and you didnât conform to your families strict ideals.Â
As such, your family finally had enough of your ârebelliousnessâ and decided to send you off to an institution know for âcorrectingâ wayward princesses. You, in turn, had enough of royalty and fled your home without a word, seeking out the freedom you dearly longed for. Eventually, you found your way to Neverland, encountering Pan and his Lost Boys, who met your arrival with them encircling you with weapons drawn, aimed to kill. The only reason you were still alive today was that you were able to hear Panâs flute, meaning you were lost, and therefore part of the Lost Boys. It took awhile for everyone to trust you, especially Pan, but it happened and you were never felt more like you were home.Â
Back to the present, you and Peter finally reached the main camp, a raging bonfire going on in the middle of the layout of tents and huts. The boys were either chowing down or were dancing to the beat of the drums. Peter left you to go include himself in the boys merry making as you grabbed a bite to eat. Grabbing a slice of meat from the dayâs hunt, you silently greeted a few of the boys with a raise of your cup. The younger boys dragged you to sit with them, happily chatting away as they told you about their day.Â
Soon you were done with your meal and the music called to you. Like you were under a spell, you jumped into the frey of wildly dancing bodies, letting the music guide your movements. You danced freely with your fellow lost brothers, your mind focusing on the sound of the pan flute and the drums. As you danced around the fire, you saw Peter staring intensely at you with his green eyes, the light of the bonfire casting shadows across his face, intensifying the strikingness of his attractive features. You couldnât help but keep his gaze as you danced, enjoying the way he was looking at you with such intensity, an undistinguishable emotion flowing in his eyes.Â
Unfortunately, the party was interrupted by a loud sound and a bright light. Everyone stopped in the middle of what they were doing, staring at a hole ripped into the fabric of space and time right near the center of the campgrounds. The portal seemed to shine brighter as two figures appeared from the other side of it. As they stepped through, the portal closed behind them, allowing you to see their features now that the unnatural brightness was gone. One of the figures was a teenage boy, characterized with tan skin, dark brown hair, and a mole on his right cheek. He was wearing red hoodie over a light grey shirt, dark grey skinny jeans, and olive/white sneakers on his slender build. His brown eyes eyed the Lost Boys nervously, his hand twitching over the hilt of the sword in his sheath. The other figure was a teenage girl with long blonde hair, light blue eyes, and fair skin. On her head, she wore a magenta headband with devil horns, paired with a green and mint collared short sleeved dress, pink and purple striped leggings, white boots with pink tips and a star on each heel, along with a black spider necklace. But the most astonishing part about the girl was the pink heart shaped marks she had on her cheeks.Â
Peter and the Lost Boys immediately surrounded the two newcomers, weapons pointed at them. âWho the hell are you and what are you doing on my island?â Peter growled. The boy immediately pulled out his sword and took a defensive stance. The girl on the other hand, raised her hands up and yelled, âStop! Weâre not here to hurt anyone! Weâre just looking for someone!â Peter dismissed her claim, saying, âWhoever you are looking for is not here! Now leave before my boys and I make you wish you never stepped foot here!â The boy raised their weapons, slowly drawing closer to the new girl and boy. The girl now raised her up hands up and took a defensive stance, her hands glowing purple with magic.Â
Before any violence could come to a head, you shouted a command out to the Lost Boys and Peter, breaking the tense air. âEveryone put your weapons down!â you shouted, voice strong and dominating. The Lost Boys, confused by the order, slightly lowered their weapons and allowed you to walk through the crowd of them to the new visitors. As you showed yourself to the newcomers, the blonde haired girlâs eyes widened and her mouth dropped open in shock. â (Y/n)?â the girl said. âStar,â you said breathlessly, unable to bite back the smile that made its way to your face. Starâs hands stopped glowing and she tackled you ina hug, which you gladly returned. âUm, whatâs going on?â the hoodie wearing boy asked, completely clueless. âMarco, this is my cousin I told you about? Iâm pretty sure I told you about my favorite family member,â Star explained, looking at her friend while still holding on you.Â
âOh, isnât this precious,â Pan sneered, interrupting the moment. âA family reunion. How wonderful that theyâve come to visit.â You decided to ignore Peter and his terrible attitude, continuing to talk to your four-years younger cousin. âHow did you find me, Star? Neverland isnât on any map and canât be visited through ordinary means,â you asked. âI was able to use your old tiara to finding out what dimension you were in! Pretty cool right,â Star bragged a giant smile on her face. Before you could say another word, Peter got in between the two of you, creating a distance of a few feet. âPeter!â you exclaimed angrily. âWhat the hell?â âI donât care that youâre her family. I want you off my island. (y/n) has already told me about the way you treated her and I donât want someone like you here because of it,â he coldly told Star. âHey, man, back off!â Starâs friend, Marco, yelled stepping in front of Star protectively. The Lost Boys didnât like this, murder in their eyes as they crowded around you four, fingers itching to use their weapons. âEveryone stop! I donât want any fighting!â you shouted, dreading for any blows coming to a head. The Lost Boys slightly calmed down, but they were still tense.Â
âPeter, Star was the only one in my family that I could be myself around. I see I rubbed off on you a bit,â you said. âYou guys keep talking about our family as if they were abusive, keeping you locked up and so on,â Star pointed out. âI forget you were too young to understand at the time. Grandma Etheria and the rest of the Butterfly family constantly looked down at me, finding fault in everything I did. I didnât dress right, talk right, sit right, walk right ... and they let me know. It practically destroyed my self-esteem. And to make matter worse, Grandma Etheria decided to send me to St. Olgaâs,â you explained to your younger cousin. âOh no, not St. Oâs!â Star exclaimed in horror. âPlease donât tell me they tried to turn you into a mindless âperfectâ princess!â As she said this, she grabbed your forearms and shook you a bit. âCalm down, Star, I didnât go to St. Oâs. I left home before I was forcibly shipped off. I had a pair of dimension scissors and used them to hop from dimension to dimension until I eventually found my way here,â you continued, smiling when you reminisced about finding Neverland, your true home.Â
âIâm happy you found a place you could finally be yourself. If I wasnât so desperate for your help, I wouldnât even ask you this,â Star said. This worried you; what did she want you to do? Star quickly answered your question before you voiced it, saying, âI need you to come back to Mewni with me.â âWhat?!â you shouted, eyes wide and mouth agape. âIâm sorry, but I really need your help! My mom has disappeared and I canât find her, the Butterfly castle and kingdom are destroyed by Eclipsaâs half-monster daughter and she escaped her crystal! I canât do this on my own and everything is in disarray!â Star cried.Â
All this new information shocked you, making you stand there in silence. Peter decided to step in, angrily setting in Starâs face. âYou might be royalty, but Iâm the king here. I say who steps foot on and leaves my island. This includes (y/n). Since sheâs lost, that means she belongs here and with me. Shfeâs mine, and sheâs not going anywhere off this island,â he threatened. Star stood her ground, staring into his harsh green eyes that seemed to glow with dark power. âThen you donât know (y/n), because she hates other people making choices for her.â She turned towards you and continues, saying, â(y/n), Iâm sorry for our family treating you so terribly and I understand your reason for running away. But I still care for you and so does my mother, both of us missing you terribly when you left. If you still love us as much as we love you, I beg you to help me. I need you, my mom needs you, Mewni needs you!âÂ
(y/n) could only stand there in silence, which Peter mistook for her not wanting to return to her home, while in reality she was pondering over her beloved cousinâs words. âGet off my island. I never want to see your faces again,â he threatened, before whistling loudly, causing the Lost Boys to snap into a a violent, wild frenzy. The area was quickly filled with the sounds of weapons clashing, cries of pain, and angry shouts as Star and Marco fought the Lost Boys. Luckily, Star and Marco were successfully able to defend themselves, despite being greatly outnumbered. Starâs voice filled the air as she shouted spells and Marco yelled as he used karate moves/defended himself with his sword. You tried yelling at both sides to stop fighting, but neither side listened to you, either not hearing you over all the noise or not caring enough to listen to you. This made you angry, so angry you used your magic to cast a powerful spell to end the violence.Â
Unlike Star, you didn't need to verbally say a spell to use your magic, simply sending out a wave of bluish-white magic to emit from your magically glowing figure. As the wave of magic hit the Lost Boys, Peter, Star, and Marco, they were enveloped into a quartz of crystal, frozen in place. You sighed as you stood past the crystal prisons of your fellow Lost Boys, stopping at Peterâs crystal, staring at his evil smirk on his face and the magic accumulated in his hands. âYou just couldnât wait and let me think for a moment could you, â you said sadly. You used your magic to reverse the spell, and on Star and Marco as well. The three teens fell to the ground, gasping for breath. âIâm so sorry, guys. This was the only way to get you to stop fighting and listen to me,â you apologized, helping Star up first. âWas that the Crystal Imprisonment Spell that Rhombulas uses? Where did you learn it?â Star asked, amazed that you could do such advanced magic. âGlossaryck used to give me private lessons. He said that I needed to learn magic, too, in case something happens. But he wasnât specific on what that was,â (y/n) explained. âThat sounds like Glossaryck.âÂ
You turned towards Peter as he growled, getting up from the ground and his green eyes trained on you. âYou little ... How dare you use your magic on me!â he yelled, âRelease the Lost Boys right now (y/n)!â âYou left me no choice, Peter. You all were attacking my family and I couldnât just stay by,â you said sternly, brows furrowed as you scolded him. âHow can you defend them? Theyâre the main reason why you are on Neverland in the first place! Or havenât you forgot that?â Pan seethed. âI havenât forgotten what they did to me, Pan. But this just isnât about my family anymore. My homeland is in danger and youâre wrong to think Iâll just sit around and watch shit hit the fan!â you yelled, turning around to walk away, thinking that was the end of it. But it wasnât and Pan wanted to let you know it. âOh really? Well, know this, princess, youâll eventually be disappointed as nothing is going to change. Youâll still be the miserable, insecure, little girl you were when you came here, scrutinized by your family and your people,â Peter threatened, teeth clenched and pure hatred seeping from his pores.Â
You stopped, back still facing Peter. Said boy smirked, thinking he won this argument. But what you said surprised the male, saying, without looking at him, âI know what I have to do now, Peter. I know going back means Iâll have to face my past. Iâve been running from it for so long but I have to face it sooner or later. And I choose now.â Pan stood there shocked, mouth open a bit as he contemplated your words, and watched as Marco effortlessly opened a portal to another dimension with a pair of scissors, then entered the hole in the fabric of time and space while mumbling about ânachos,â whatever that was. Star on the other hand, nervously looked behind her at Peter, seemingly contemplating if taking (y/n) away from her current home was a good thing, before regretfully entering the swirling portal.Â
Before the (h/c) haired girl followed the two, she turned her head to the side, looking at so called King of Neverland. âI promise Iâll come back as soon as I can, Peter, to my home, the Lost Boys, and you,â she said, so much raw emotion held in her eyes. But Peter didnât care, only focussing on the frustration that took over his heart and mind. âI forbid you from leaving, (y/n)! When you leave this island, youâll eventually grow up, and once youâre grown up, you can never come back!â he shouted angrily. (Y/n) physically flinched and quickly turned her head back towards the portal, trying not to show the tears in the corners of her eyes. âGoodbye, Peter. Until we meet again.â And with those words, she stepped through the portal and left Neverland, seemingly forever.Â
As the portal closed behind her, (y/n)âs magic seemed to leave with her, as the crystals imprisoning the Lost Boys started to melt, freeing them from their containment. Felix was the first to get his bearings, stroding over to Peter and placing a hand on his shoulder, said King of Neverland not tearing his eyes away from the spot in which (y/n) walked into the portal. âPan, what happened? Whereâs (y/n) and the other two?â Felix asked his fearless leader, a scowl on his scarred face. âSheâs gone, Felix. She left Neverland,â Peter told his second-in-command emotionlessly.Â
Before the taller male could question him some more, the green-clad boy turned and walked away from the center of the campgrounds, towards his own private tent. Felix knew he was taking the Lost Girlâs departure harder than he let on. But he gave his trustful leader some space, allowing Peter to let his emotions loose in private. â(Y/n), I hope you know what youâre doing,â Felix said quietly to himself, before moving to help his fellow Lost Boys recover from the recent events.
~ Time Skip ~
âAgain! I expect you to redo everything until you lot get this right! I have no excuse for weak, boys in my army of Lost Boys!â Peter seethed. It was several months, possibly a year, since (y/n) left Peter and Neverland. At first, Peter was angry, at (y/n) and her cousin, for leaving Neverland. Then, he was angry at himself for letting the Lost Girl leave, thinking he should have done everything he could from letting the girl leave. Eventually, Peterâs anger faded away and was replaced with a longing to see his favorite girl again. It was only until (y/n) left did Peter realize he felt something for the rebel princess, seeing her more as just another inhabitant of Neverland and a pawn in his games. And when he realized this non-platonic feelings, he regretted being so heartless to (y/n) before she left, hating himself for letting that be the last thing he ever said to the (h/c) haired girl.Â
Since (y/n) left Neverland, Peter changed, unfortunately for the worse. He was harsher and more cruel towards his Lost Boys and those that had the misfortune of being his enemy. All Pan cared for now was power, stopping at nothing to increase his magical strength by achieving immortality, regardless of the lives he had to take. And that meant he was setting in motion the events that would lead to taking the heart of the Truest Believer from a young boy to remain young forever.Â
Hence, the current intense training session the Lost Boys were doing, as Pan need them to be prepared for everything and anything, failure not being an option. âWho knew (y/n) leaving effect Pan this much? Heâs been running us into the ground during training even since the girl left him,â Rufio mumbled to a couple of other Lost Boys. Pan heard this, and he did not like it. âWhat was that Rufio?â he snarled and turned towards the wise-cracking Lost Boy. Rufioâs face paled in fear as Pan strode towards him, his friends that once surrounded him nowhere to be seen, as they fled from Panâs wrath.Â
The poor Lost Boy stood quaking in his boots as the King of Neverland stood in front of him, the slightly shorter leader wrapping a hand around Rufioâs throat, crushing his windpipe and preventing any air from reaching his lungs. Rufio gasped from breath as the other Lost Boys stood there in fear induced silence, unable to do anything but watch. âYouâve been mouthing off too much for my tastes. Looks like Iâm going to have to put a stop to it permanently,â Peter growled. He shoved his hand into his chest, fingers wrapping around the boys heart. âPlease, no...â Rufio pleaded.Â
Pan was just about to rip the boys heart out of his chest and then crush it to dust, when a loud noise and bright light shook the camp site. Everyone turned their heads to the sky, where a giant multicolored portal hung just below the treetops. Something or someone, came out of it, falling to the ground, and the portal closed violently with a loud bang. Peter and the Lost Boys were unable to do anything, as the figure got up from the ground and their features finally revealed by the light of the fire. (H/c) locks framed a (face shape) face, (e/c) eyes looking over everything as a bright smile broke out on the femaleâs (thin/plump) lips.Â
Felix was the first to break the silence, calling out the name of the person. â(y/n)? Is that really you?â the second-in-command asked, shocked that the girl had finally returned to Neverland. âYeah, it's me,â the former Lost Girl replied a smile on her face. Felix immediately caught the girl in a hug, picking up the (much/slightly) shorter girl in his excitement. It seemed the spell was broken, as the Lost Boys immediately started moving towards the former Lost Girl, chatter filling the silence.Â
âWelcome back, (y/n),â Felix said to the girl, after he pulled away from her. âItâs great to be back,â (y/n) replied, her face so full of light and joy. Her (e/c) eyes caught Peterâs, causing the girl to stare straight into the piperâs eyes. He was stunned; here she was, the girl Peter has been obsessing over ever since she left, popping out of the blue, acting as if she never left in the first place. Their longing glaze was broken by a younger Lost Boy tugging on (y/n)âs hand, her attention turning towards the little one. â(Y/n), will you be staying here? Please donât leave us again,â he said, his voice honey sweet and blue eyes looking at the (h/c) girl with pleading eyes. âDonât worry, Jack,â (y/n) said, lowing herself so she could be eye level with the young boy. âI wonât be leave you.âÂ
She rose to her full height and announced with a loud voice, âIn fact, I will never have to leave Neverland again. From this moment forward, this island will be my forever home!â The campsite erupted in cheers and howls, all the Lost Boys loudly showing their approval. âIf thatâs the case then, letâs celebrate! To our one and only Lost Girl!â Felix cheered. As if it wasnât already possible, the boys got even louder, happily cheering at the chance to party. Peter could only stare on wordlessly, as (y/n) was swept away by several Lost Boys, losing his sight on the magnificent girl.Â
~ Time Skip ~
The Lost Boys howled in delight as the drums were banged and the fire in the center of the campsite crackled. Peter watched from the side lines as they danced wildly. But his gaze was focused on one very special dancer. His green eyes followed (y/n), watching every move of her limbs and bend of her body as she danced without a care in the world. She was one with the music as she her body followed the rhythm of the drums. Peterâs eyes caught (y/n)âs (e/c) ones, everything around him seeming to slow down as did so.Â
He immediately tore his gaze away from her, pretending to be watching Felix wrestle some unfortunate soul into the dirt ground. In the corner of his eye, he saw (y/n) stop her lively dancing and steadily make his way towards him. Peter felt his breath get caught in his chest as she came closer, but was able to calm himself down before (y/n) got close enough to notice the effect she had on him.Â
âEnjoying the party?â she asked him, leaning against the bark of a tree next to him. âOf course. I enjoy seeing my boys let loose for once. The drinks help a bit, too,â he replied, gesturing towards the wooded cup in his hand. (Y/n) gazed out at rowdy group of wild teenage boys in front of her, a closed-mouth smile on her face. âI missed this. The freedom, how carefree everything is, not having any responsibilities,â she admitted. âYou missed all of this? Even Rufioâs attitude?â he asked, surprised.Â
(Y/n) let out a short laugh, music to Peterâs ears. âIs it so surprising I missed my home. There wasnât a day where I didnât long to come back here and just let loose,â (y/n) continued, (e/c) eyes glowing in the firelight as she stared out at the wild party goers. It was silent for a little bit, a hint of awkwardness in the air. âSo, um, what exactly happened back on Meowy?â Peter spoke up, desperately trying to break the silence. âMewni. And so much happened. Everything has changed. And I couldnât be happier,â (y/n) explained, a smile on her face as she reminisced. âTell me about it. Iâve never heard of it before.âÂ
âWell, I wonât go into the long and detailed history, Iâm sure you wouldnât want to hear about that. But I will tell you that Mewni is now unified between its people and the kingdom is in the hands of its true queen,â (y/n) explained as shortly as she could. âWell, thatâs good,â Peter replies. A pregnant pause filled the air, until Peter thankfully broke it. âIs what you said before actually true?â he asked, voice barely above a whisper. âWhat?â you question, thinking you misheard him. âYou said would never leave Neverland again? Was that true? Or was that just something you said that was in spur of the moment?â Peter continued. In the back of his mind, he couldnât believe what she was true. Why would she want to stay here and be with me? he thought. Especially after how I treated her the last time I saw her. âPeter,â (y/n) said softly. âI was serious when I said that. Nothing will make me leave Neverland and you guys again.â
Peter felt his heart stop for moment, in disbelief at what she just told him. (Y/n) turned her kind gaze away from looking down at her hands folded in her lap. âBesides, itâs not like I can return home anyway,â she said softly. âWait, what?â Peter thought he heard wrong. âItâs no big deal. You already know I never saw Mewni as my home. Neverland is my home. When the chance came for me to spend forever in my homeworld or spend forever here, I made my choice,â she explained nonchalantly. Peter could only open his mouth wide in shocked silence. He never thought she would such a thing. Give up her family and everything she known just to be with for him and the Lost Boys. It was almost insane.Â
âYou really did all of that? Even after what I said to you before you left?â Peter gaped. âIâm sorry ... for what I said by the way. I wasnât thinking straight and -â âWow, the Peter Pan apologizing. To little old me,â (y/n) teased a goofy smile on her face. âDonât make fun of me. You know Iâm donât ever apologize â Peter pouted. (y/n) giggled, forcing a hidden smile to make its way to Peterâs lips. âI missed you, you know. Can you believe that?â Peter admitted, trying to hide his warming cheeks. (y/n) was astonished at his confession.âYou really missed me? I thought you would have forgotten about me.â âI would never. There wasnât a day I didnât think about you,â Peter continued, gently taking the girlâs hands into his. (Y/n) looked down their combined hands, cheeks red at the feeling of Peterâs warm hands. âI did, too. The thought of Neverland and you kept me going. You were my reason to keep fighting, so one day I would be able to return to you.âÂ
Peter gently placed his fingertips under her chin, directing her downcast eyes to look at him. â(Y/n) ...â he trailed off. He didn't know what he was going to say, his eyes flicking to her luscious soft lips. Peter couldnât help but subconsciously darted his tongue out to wet his own, longing to meet them with hers. His hand trailed to cup her cheek, enjoying the site of her reddening skin under his rough fingertips. (Y/n)âs luminous (e/c) orbs nervously flew to look back at him, her breathing hitching in her throat. He watched her for a moment, looking for any indication that she was uncomfortable. But there was none, so Peter slowly inched closer, stopping until there was little more than an inch between them. He heart stopped as (y/n) closed the distance between them, the organ soaring at the feeling of her luscious lips on his own. Peter felt her wrap her hands around his neck loosely, his other hand moving to grip tightly to (y/n)âs hip. He could taste the Neverberries from the juice she had before, along with a specific taste he couldnât quite identify. But he couldn't get enough it, shown by him adding more pressure into the kiss. (Y/n) reacted positively, fingers gripping onto the hairs at the base of his neck, a little mewl coming from her lips as she relaxed into his hold. Peter was just about to kick it up a notch when they were rudely interrupted.Â
âHey, lovebirds! Get a tent will ya?â Felix shouted from across the campfire, hands cupped over his mouth and announcing the scene to everyone. (Y/n) was the first to pull away, face red as the Lost Boys howling once they noticed what their leader and Lost Girl were doing. âShut up all of you!â Peter hollered at the boys. He was just about to teach them all a lesson when he felt (y/n) lean her head onto his chest. He looked down she was hiding her face in his shirt in embarrassment, the sight causing his heart pang in pity. âPeter, letâs go somewhere else. Please,â (y/n) quietly pleaded. âAlright, dear. Letâs head back to my tent. I still want to be with my favorite Lost Girl,â he whispered in her ear, placing a kiss on her forehead. Peter wrapped an arm around the girlâs waist and gently led her away from the center of camp. The Lost Boys started cheer and make lewd comments, which Peter when stopped at the entrance of his private abode, (y/n) continuing on inside without him. âNot another word from any you, or else Iâll be locking you in the cages for a week!â he threatened, glaring at them with darkness in his eyes. The boys shut up, knowing their leader was serious as they avoided eye contact. âFelix, knock up into shape if anything happens.â The second-in-command smirked, giving Peter a quick wink. The green-clad boy ignored it, heading inside and back to the beautiful girl waiting for him. (y/n) was laying on his fur-covered bed, patiently waiting for him. Peter sighed and crawled next to her, pulling her into arms once he was comfortable. He snuggled into neck, placing soft kisses onto her exposed neck. âStay with, darling. I want you in my arms tonight,â Peter pleaded, already feeling his eyes close in bliss. âWith you. Always.âÂ

"The door fell shut behind me while getting the mail. Now I'm stuck outside on a windy October day"
The bright side of locking yourself outÂ
It was 1 pm when the insistent ringing of the doorbell jerked Sirius out of his dreams. He grumbled for a few moments before his brain caught up and reminded him that he'd ordered a replacement for the broken gear-belt of his motorcycle. And Sirius really needed to get the bike repaired 'cause taking the tube to and from work was just the worst. So, he jumped out of bed and raced to the door of the building â there's no way he's missing the mailperson! Tough luck, Sirius was just in time to see the backlights of the delivery-truck disappear behind a corner.
"God, damnit!" He cursed loudly, mentally just warming up for a full-on rant when a particularly forceful wind-gust shoved half a ton of leaves in Sirius' face and caused an unfortunate bang behind his back.
No. Please no. Slowly, as if keeping off looking might undo what the dreadful noise promised, Sirius turned around, finally staring at the firmly closed door. It is just now that he realised that he's not only stuck outside on a rather unpleasant mid-October day, no, he's stuck outside barefoot, only wearing his pyjama bottoms and a worn shirt. No phone, no keys. It began to rain, no umbrella. What. A. Day.
Just two months ago, Sirius still lived with James and that wouldn't have been much of a problem. Back in the day, James was still writing his final assignment for his degree and stayed at home all the time. But since he graduated, found himself a paying job and moved in with Lily, Sirius lives alone for the very first time in his 25 years on this planet. And while he loved Lily dearly, Sirius couldn't always stop himself from feeling a bit abandoned and lonely, which was ridiculous, of course. Since they got together, James and Lily never let any doubt creep in that Sirius was anything but loved and treasured by both of them.
But the sentiment was of no use just then. In that moment, he needed to find a pragmatic solution. What does one do, trapped outside with no phone, no keys and no shoes? Sirius sighed in resignation. One does walk to the next cafe, beg them to use their phone without coming off as a complete nutter and call James to rescue him.
About five steps from the door, Sirius stopped dead in his tracks, quest forgotten. Walking right up to him was his neighbour from upstairs, the most intriguing person Sirius has ever met, or almost met, seen that they had never talked before.
The guy seemed very unassuming the few times he saw him in the stairway with his knit sweaters and washed out jeans. He was very quiet in the mornings as if he unknowingly considered that Sirius, as a bartender, worked during the nights and really needed his mornings to sleep. During the afternoon however, enjoyable music wafted down through Sirius' open windows together with the delicious smell of freshly cooked food.
The neighbour -Lupin, it said on the mailbox- stared at Sirius with wide eyes for a moment before he stepped closer, holding his umbrella over both of them.
"Erm." The other man said instead of greeting him.
"Please don't ask." Sirius implored him, completely done with this day already. But then again, Lupin had a nice voice.
"Right", Lupin laughed, "You live in the basement, right? Black? I'm going to ask anyway... aren't you cold?"
Not what Sirius expected to be asked. Naturally, his response was eloquent, he was absolutely not caught off guard, "Uhh -yeah, I live here. And- and I'm cold... but I thought you were-"
"-going to ask why you are out here?" Lupin laughed again, a really nice sound, "You clearly locked yourself out. No one goes around in the rain in October like this. Want to come in to mine? Dry off and call someone?"
With that he looked pointedly at Sirius, who took the glance as a clue to have a look at himself. So, summed up, he was drenched, with dirty feet and unkempt hair. Not the first impression he wanted to make on his neighbour. He's a proper adult now. Anyhow, this was by far his best option "That would actually safe my day."
Without another word, Sirius was led upstairs, offered a warm shower and some soft clothes, which were a bit too big for him (Lupin was at least half a head taller than himself). Clean and dry, Sirius sits in Lupin's little kitchen for his next task: calling James, who couldn't leave work for another three hours, meant that Sirius either waited for another four hours or paid 600 pounds for key-service to open his door, which he found out in the next call. He got a string of curses off his chest and was met with an astounded look of Lupin, who had poked his head though the door. Today, Sirius was impressively good at presenting himself at his worst.
"I'm sorry." He mumbled, not looking at his generous neighbour.
"Nah it's fine." Said one just shrugged, "What did your friend say?"
"Another four hours or 600 pounds." Sirius supplied, feeling a little miserable.
"Oh, unfortunate. Do you want to wait here? I have some work to do but you can hang out if you want."
"No, thank you. That would be too much" It really would.
"No. Really, it's no bother. I wouldn't offer if it wasn't alright." Lupin waved him off, "I'm Remus, by the way. And before you ask: Yes, Remus like in the Roman mythology"
"Nice to officially meet you, Remus, like in the Roman mythology." Sirius bowed mockingly, "I'm Sirius, and before you ask, yes, like the star and yes, I've probably heard all of the serious-jokes in existence by now."
With introductions out of the way, Sirius was sat on the big and comfortable couch in the living room with a nice cup of milky tea. He had no idea what to do now and felt a bit awkward, but his neighbour seemed unbothered by his surprise-guest.
"Sorry to be such a bad host but I have a bit work to do, I didn't get to do last night. If you like, feel free to take whatever book sparks your interest from the shelves." Remus apologised and put on some quiet music over his phone while settling in a cosy armchair across the couch with a stack of papers on his lap. It was only then, that Sirius realised how good-looking Remus was. His hair, light brown, wavy and a bit shaggy was falling slightly into his bright hazel eyes, focused on the papers in front of him. Suddenly, Remus huffed, scrunched up his slightly crooked nose (dusted with freckles that spread over his cheekbones) and lifted his left hand to his thin-lipped mouth to gnaw at his thumbnail.
"Displeasing literature?" Sirius heard himself asking before he could check the question in his mind for stupidity.
"You have no idea." the other man grumbled, "That one actually wrote that the inhabitants of Egypt are the mummies!"
Sirius couldn't help but bark a laugh at the affronted tone of Remus' voice,
"So, you're teaching history?"
"Yeah." Remus sighed and plucked a red pen from the little table beside him and began vigorously scribbling onto the paper.
The conversation felt to be over for now as Sirius' host seemed, indeed, quite busy. So, Sirius took up the offer to have a look at the bookshelves lining three walls of the room. The carped felt warm and soft under his bare feet while he strolled along the shelves. Quickly he recognised several of his favourites among the countless books and when his eye caught on The Little Prince, he couldn't resist to take it with him back to the couch.
When he was settled again, Remus looked up to see what Sirius had picked and smiled around a soft hum "I've read so many books and this is still one of my favourites."
Sirius couldn't help but smile back. "Mine, too."
From then on, they sat in a far more comfortable silence than before, both engulfed in their literature. Now and then, Remus huffed or snorted and shared some of the more entertaining mishaps of his students. It felt like they've been spending their afternoons together like this for years. Sirius was simultaneously at peace and properly creeped out.
After a while. Remus got up and returned with a fresh cup of tea for both of them. Steeped for exactly long enough, with the perfect amount of milk in it.
"It's wild that I've been living here for a little over two months and we barely even saw each other, isn't it?" Sirius commented, cradling his new cup in his hands while Remus got once again comfortable in his armchair.
"No, not really." The other man supplied with a slightly sad smile, "See, I teach evening classes from around 7 pm to midnight, get home around 1 am and because I'm an absolute night owl, I usually do my grading and preparations right after until 4 or 5 and then sleep 'till noon. And while I thrive in my rhythm, it's a bit hard to meet, or just come across, people... or get to go out for breakfast. It's silly but I love breakfast and until I get up, most places have switched to the lunch-menu already."
What are the chances. "And here I thought that you were so quiet in the mornings because you are psychic and just know that I sleep during that time." Sirius couldn't help the chuckle bubbling up his throat at the puzzled expression of the man across him. "I'm a bartender and work from 8 to 3 in the morning during the week and until 5 on Fridays and Saturdays." He elaborated, "after that I'm often too riled up to go directly to sleep, so I often go to bed around 6 and sleep until 1."
Remus just stared at him. "Our schedules are nearly identical."
Sirius opened his mouth to reply when the sound of the doorbell interrupted them. Remus got up to open the door to a hurried James, who handed Sirius the spare-keys, kissed his cheek and stormed off again.
"So, this was James. Is he your boyfriend, then?" The cosy atmosphere dissolved with the appearance of a wary look on Remus' face.
"Nah. He is my best friend, practically brother. I know, kissing is rather uncommon between two male friends, but we've been doing that since we met fourteen years ago, and I don't give a shit about convention." Sirius explained with a fond smile on his face.
After that, they parted rather quickly as both men needed to get ready for work, but a lot still lingered in the air, unsaid. His shift went over much too slow for Sirius while he brooded over the change in the atmosphere at the end of his stay with his neighbour.
The next day, Sirius woke up with a plan. A potentially humiliating plan, but worth the risk. He got up much quicker than usual, fired up the oven and began preparing. Around 12:30 Sirius knocked at his neighbour's door and was met with a sleepy Remus in pyjamas.
"Hey- erm... good morning! Here are your clothes!" Sirius began far too loud. All he achieved was a furrowed brow on the other man's face.
Get a grip, Black! "Uhh...OK. Listen, I really like you. Would you like to have a breakfast-date with me?" He tried to put on a winning smile while lifting the tray in his hands a bit.
Remus, who had blushed furiously during Sirius' rambling, blinked at him once before a wide grin spread on his face and he stepped aside to let Sirius and the warm croissants in.

Dec 19th, Saturday 12:10
Jens was quite surprised by the notion that they were perfectly on time. Traffic into Brussels had been fairly light, given it was so early on a saturday. He had expected to have more people on the streets the weekend before christmas, when he had parked the car at his grandparents house to drop of his mom and sister. Perhaps the ongoing pandamic warrented reason enough to stay at home, he guessed. And because they had managed to be so quick, Lucas and him had found time to join for a larger second breakfast.
He wasnât gonna lie, it had him incredibly nervous to introduce his boyfriend. His grandmother wasnât a close-minded person, but he could definitely see that she didnât quite understood at first. But over breakfast she seemed to come to terms with it. He was very grateful for his mom doing most of the talking.Â
His grandfather in the meantime greeted Lucas, calling him Robbe at least two more times afterwards, causing Lotte to call the old man silly, not comprehending, that their grandfather was sick himself. Jens apologised each time, explaining the dementia of his grandfather, but Lucas didnât seemed to be bothered by it, after the initial confusion.
The couple left at exactly a quarter to twelve, with warm goodbyes and hugs and a large plastic box filled with freshly made cookies. To keep them from starving on their long journey ahead. Jens didnât mention the cotton bag on the passenger seat, already containing way too many sweats, and instead joined Lucas to thank her for the thoughtfullness.
Sander and Robbe stumbled out of the trainstation, the same minute Jens stopped his car infront of Brussels central to pick up the two yawning boys.
The four quickly rummaged through the trunk of the car, fitting the additional bags into the spot, that had hold his momâs and Lotteâs luggage before. Jens thanked Robbe at least for a whole minute, that they had taken the train here to join them, when everyone else had managed to leave from Antwerp. They had three packed cars in total, the other two driven by Senne and Milan. Though with their little drop off and no intention to have to organise for all of the group to stick together, they probably would arrive last.
Not a minute later, the boys were on their way. And just a moment later, the silence was already broken.
âSander and me actually put a playlist together, itâs only 6 hours long though. I guess youâll have to cover the last two.â Lucas grinned from the passenger seat, already fishing for his phone from his crumbled up jacket on the floor to his feet.
âOh my god, no.â Jens groaned, not seriously discontent or upset about the procamation, but just to make a point, that he wasnât quite prepared for a day long journey spend in the 70s.
âYou get used to that, trust me. But agreed!â Robbe offered from the seat right behind him on the beackseat. At least he had his best friend backing him.
âWhat is that supposed to mean?â Sander pretended too be deeply offended by his boyfriends wordâs, clutching his chest.
âExactly what I said.â Robbe stated, causing Lucas to simply laugh in response, as the boy was busy figuring out the carâs display menu. Jens definitely wouldnât win this.
âRobbe. Robbe. Hey Robbe!â Jens had to call a couple of times, in order to break up the bickering couple on the backseat. Now caught in an silly argument about RobbeâS music taste instead.
âYeah?â His best friend asked, accepting Sanderâs hand to hold as an piece offering, before he turned to face the front.
âI have an idea!â Jens declared, an ominous smirk on his lip, while he searched for Robbe in the back mirror.
âUh-huh.âÂ
âSo you love me right, man?âÂ
That certainly piqued everyoneâs interest, as all of them stopped doing, whatever they did, to get comfortable. Jens briefly concentrated on the street ahead, waiting for Robbeâs answer.
âOf course.â His best friend insisted. Exactly what Jens wanted to hear.
âPerfect!â He said excited, before getting to the point. âSo here is my idea: How about we forget about the last one and a half years or so ,and just pretend that you had declared your undying love for me after Jana. While I was obvously was already over her and comfortable in my sexuality. So we naturally got together, thus we can just ditch these two at the next rest stop we pass.âÂ
Jens full on grinned by the time he reached the conclusion, as he hold Robbeâs gaze in the backmirror, aside from the glances back onto the street every second. âAnd then it is just you and me, baby!â He winked, very pleased with himself.
Robbe laughed, the big amused smile present on his face, once he calmed down again to reply.
âBrilliant idea. Deal!âÂ
Jens swiftly punched his fist in the air, before he instantly took hold of the steering wheel again. He was a responsible driver. He hoped at least, given his three passengers, he all loved dearly.
âHey!âÂ
It practiaclly echoed in unison, as their two boyfriends looked absolutely dumfounded in their outrage.
The two best friends caught in a fit of giggles at their shocked expressions. Robbe even leaning forward to sneak his hands onto Jensâs neck to stroke the naked skin, right beneath his hair. Not a bad start, Jens figured, fully playing into it, as he let his head fall back in turn.
âYou literally declared your love for me yesterday morning for the first time ever, and didnât stop telling me since then. What the fuck, Jens?â Lucas tried to sound as hurt and accusing as he could, if it wasnât for the grin spreading across his face betraying his pretended intentions.
âAww thatâs so cute.â Robbe cooed, very much smitten over the newest development between the couple in front of him.Â
âYeah must be nice.â Sander mumbled, taking his hand out of Robbeâs he still had hold onto despite the whole joke developing before.
âWhat?â
âI didnât get one this morning.â Sander pouted at his boyfriendâs questioning look, crossing his arms.
âBut I di...â Robbe paused, his eyes squinting into the space between them, as he figured, that indeed he hadnât. He blinked, trying for puppy eyes instead to smoothen the mood.
âSee, I was correct.â
âOh but I love you so much.â His best friend countered, blinking sweetly up at Sander, who had trouble not to give in too fast, quite in vain, when Robbe shifted a little closer, the two boys sharing a kiss.
âAww thatâs so cute.â Jens mocked the exact tone and words, his best friend has thrown at Lucas and him a moment earlier.
âWhat about us though, baby?â He teased a minute later, trying intently to sound at least a little hurt. âI thought we were gonna be a thing now?â
âYeah, Robbe, no worries. Jens is hot, I get it.â Sander encouraged, pushing his boyfriend slightly back again.
Lucas snorted at the comment, before he nodded and vehemntly agreed to the statement that, indeed Jens was a good looking dude.
âUhm, does that means I can have all of you? Do I get to choose?â Jens loudly inquired, very happy with the whole direction this took. Heâd gladly took the next seven hours of their trip, to be showered in compliments.
âDunno, do I get to top?â Sander pulled his face into a suggesting expression, wiggling his eyebrows amused, as he stared at Jens through the back mirror, who noted it looking up to it from the road infront. The oldest boy himself barely able not to just start laughing.
âSure.â Jens agreed instantly, not a thought wasted, which meant in turn, that all eyes turned to him in an unusual moment of silence. His eyes quickly searched for Robbe in the mirror, abolutely loosing it, as he saw his best friendâs jaw hung open, his eyes wide in disbelief.Â
âExcuse me?â Robbe barely managed to say.
Jens simply shrugged in response. He hadnât really contemplated it prior to this moment, but he definitely wouldnât cross it out straight away. Why not?
âThen yeah you can have me too.â Sander concluded, breaking out of his little stupor first. The cocky confidence back in his face, as he blew Jens a kiss, followed by a wink.
Now it was Jens who was definitely wheezing, traying hard to not loose his conentration as he stuck his eyes strictly to the front of the car, stopping at a red light luckily, for him to catch a breath. This was something he would have to made sure that the otherâs vowed to never bring once they would leave the car. With them it felt easy, natural even, to joke around like this, didnât mean he would like to have it told to others.
âI guess, I have to dissapoint though, Lucas is the only one for me. Sorry.â
A collective âawww.â filled the car to a volume, that was definitely audible to the people outside that would pass them. But as they turned onto the highway, it fortunately made it impossible.
âStay jealous, I win.â Lucas proclaimed proudly, leaning over to peck a kiss on Jensâs cheek, before his boyfriend went to connect his phone over bluetooth. A minute later âIâm gonna be (500 miles)â by The Proclaimers was blasting from the speakers. Lucas and Sander immediately singing loudly along.
Jens even caught Robbe mouthing the words to it. Traitor.
It would definitely be a long ride, that was for certain, Jens thought, sighing defeated.Â
Fuck it, he thought, it was his vacation. So he shook his head with a smile, before he gave in and just joined his friends, allowing him to simply have some fun.Â

London boy
Hi guys! Iâm back with a lil quarantine pick me up! Itâs been sooooo long so it felt good to write again. Iâm almost done with this semester so Iâm hoping I can do more writing soon. All this being said, make sure to check my note at the end about a possible part 2 and let me know what you think! Love yâall!
*Also PSA Iâve never been to London unless Heathrow airport counts so I tried to do my best research but sorry if things are wrong*
Fandom: Tom Holland
Ship: Tom Holland x y/n
Setting: Begins in Nashville, TN but mostly takes place in London
Word Count: 2299 (whew)
Warnings: Alcohol consumption? I canât think of any others. Itâs mostly fluff
Rating: Like a K or something
$
You were hanging out on Broadway St.
No, not the one in New York. The one in Nashville, Tennessee.
It was a place filled with great live music, dancing all night long, and lots and lots of alcohol.Â
You and some friends had gone out to a particular bar that another friendâs band was playing at, all dressed up in ripped up jean shorts, riding boots, and a cute cowboy hat.
As you all waited for them to get on stage, you ordered a round to loosen up a bit, you getting some Jack Daniels on the rocks.
That local flavor would forever be your first choice, especially compared to the tequila shots some of the girls chose instead.
$
Tom Holland, Harrison Osterfield, and some of their buddies strolled down Broadway, too.
Tomâs newest project was set in the city and a long day of filming called for letting loose for the night and getting to know a little bit more of Nash culture.
They came upon one place where a band was playing a Bruce Springsteen song, so they headed in, beelining to the bar.Â
As they waited for their own drinks, Tom turned his head to look around when he caught a glance of you, and everything seemed to move in slow motion.Â
You were coolly half sitting-half leaning on a barstool, sipping your drink as you soaked in the music. Your friendâs band always sounded great, but you decided to scan the room to see how other people were reacting.Â
You turned your head, the big curls in your hair flipping over your shoulder. As you looked straight down the bar you caught eyes with a brunette man laughing with his friends, face going slack as he stared back at you.Â
You looked him up and down, not taking much time to study his face, then smiled and turned back to the band.Â
Please come over here you thought, trying to not look again.
Tom turned to his group.
âDo you see that girl? Thatâs the most beautiful girl Iâve ever seen!â
âWell then go on you div, make a conversation,â Harrison said as the others gassed Tom up, too.
The guys pushed him around a bit as he bounced up and down on his toes, trying to hype himself up.
A few moments later you saw a male figure approach from the corner of your eye. You had planned to flirt with him, but the second you turned to say something, you froze.
It was Tom. Holland.
You both stared at each other silently for a second, both surprised, until finally he spoke up, his accent clearly British among the southern Nashville drawls around you.
âSorry to bother you, but I saw you across the bar and couldnât help but notice how beautiful you were.â
A blush rose to your cheeks, and it took a moment before you found words to reply.
âI- thank you. Youâre Tom Holland, right?â you asked incredulously.
It was his turn to blush and look at the ground. He nodded his head, a cute smile lighting up his face.
âThatâs me. Now would you mind the honor of teaching me how to dance like the tennesseans?â
It took no thought to take his hand and tear up the dance floor that night.
$
It had been almost 3 years since youâd met Tom that in Nash. A night of dancing and drinking had led to you going back to his hotel that night.Â
Nothing had actually happened between you though, because you were both too drunk and sleepy to do anything but crash on top the bed.
It had, however, sparked the beginnings of an amazing romance, where in the present, you were strolling down Camden Market looking at art, clothing, and jewelry as you tried to decide where to grab food.
Hands held tightly together, you both decided to stop for a moment to look over the canal, but you instead focused your attention onto his face that glowed in the sunlight.
He turned to you and did the same, both of you grinning like kids when your eyes met.Â
âOh how I love that American smile of yours,â he breathed.
âI fancy you too, darling,â you returned, heart full.Â
$
On your first trip to London, heâd taken you to Highgate, where some of his childhood friends lived. Of course you already knew Harrison, Tuwaine, and Tomâs brothers (considering most of them had been there the night you met), but youâd been nervous to make a good impression.
It wasnât long until you were jumping into their conversation and joking too, as if youâd all been friends for years.
You and Tom had only been dating about 6 months by this point, and had somehow kept the relationship secret from the public, so it felt nice to be introduced as his girlfriend.
Youâd gone into the kitchen to refresh your drink when Harrison followed behind.Â
âYou really love him, donât you?â he asked out of nowhere, âat least, thatâs what we all think.â
You paused to think.
I guess the rumors are true...
$
Another trip about a year into the relationship and youâd learned to love high tea, listening to stories from Tomâs days in acting and carpentry schools, and the West End.
It was hard to believe every time you went to a show that in days past, Tom had been on that stage, too.Â
Youâd also spent time at the pubs with him and the boys, sometimes watching rugby, other times playing pub quizzes.Â
There were also times that you went out dancing. It was a whole different world from line dances and country music, but over time it felt just as natural.
$
In the present, your time around the market had been ended early as clouds darkened and turned to gloomy rain.Â
It didnât really bother you though, because as the cab took you through the city, you saw the lights glow and illuminate the glistening buildings youâd come to love. Â
âIâm sorry we had to cut the day short, love,â Tom whispered, squeezing your hand with his.Â
âAre you kidding?â you beamed, âIâve had so much fun today! We got to explore the heart of the city, go shopping at the market, and eat great food. Plus, now we can go with everyone to that teahouse I love. What more could a girl ask for?âÂ
âGod, I love you,â he grinned as you leaned on his shoulder to look back out the window, distracting yourself for the long ride back to his house.
$
About a year and a half of dating, and youâd come to visit Tom while he was filming a movie at the Warner Bros. studio in Watford.Â
Since he was filming up north, you chose to rent a hotel in the heart of the city so Tom could stay closer to work (and therefore have more time with you).
Most of the nights he could, youâd go club in Brixton. Afternoons off were spent in Shoreditch trying restaurants and looking at art. You also got to see his buddies from Highgate again, joking and having fun just as before.
By now, your relationship was public and of course the paparazzi was often trying to photograph you, but you didnât really mind it. It was nice getting to show the world just how in love you were with this boy.
$
For your two year anniversary, Tom had flown you out to the city for a romantic getaway, where instead of staying at his house like usual, he paid to have you stay in a royal suite at a 5 star hotel in the heart of London, overlooking the river.Â
You spent the trip mostly to yourselves, not going out to the pubs at night like usual, instead choosing to have private dinners or go to nice restaurants.Â
He took you shopping around Bond St, showering you with expensive things that you of course didnât need (and had to buy a second suitcase to haul), but the gesture alone was the nicest thing a boyfriend had done for you.
Of course, you also visited with his family and had a nice time with all of them, but spending private time with Tom was the best of all.
The place you stayed made you feel like a queen (it was royal after all), and it fit the way he could never help but call you his Tennessee queen.
The lingerie heâd gotten you also came in handy, because when you emerged from the bathroom wearing only that, he would say in a husky voice,Â
âBabe, donât threaten me with a good time,â before youâd do exactly that.
$
In the present, you were back at Tomâs place, preparing for dinner with his family when he called you to the backyard.
The rain had let up, leaving a lovely sunset sky, which is what you were expecting him to talk about once you came to the back porch.
âWow, thatâs pretty,â you stated, snapping your hoop earring shut to complete your look for the night.Â
Tom had said it would be a nice dinner, so youâd put on the soft pink dress he had bought earlier that day the second you said you loved it and some matching heels. You had also spent time curling your hair and doing some makeup, wanting to look and feel good.
âYou look more beautiful than a thousand sunsets,â he whispered back, causing you to blush as pink as your dress. You gave him a soft kiss on the lips.
âWhat did you call me out here for? Shouldnât we head out soon?â
âRight, yeah. I got distracted there for a second,â he chuckled before continuing, âY/n, do you remember the night we met?â
âOf course. Iâll keep that day burned into my memory until the day I die.â
âWell, that night I told my mates that you were the most beautiful girl Iâve ever seen, and itâs still true. I donât regret a single thing about the past 3 years of loving you.â
Your heart began to pound and you tried to steady your breathing. Was this it? Was this what you thought it was?
God, I hope so a voice in your head was screaming.
He took your hands in his and squeezed them.Â
âY/n L/n, I love you so dearly. Iâve probably loved you since the night I took you back to my hotel and I woke up to find you laying atop my bed and just didnât realize it then.â
He began to bend his knees and reached a hand into his pocket, butterflies now rising in your stomach like nothing before.
âI want to love you for the rest of my life. Y/n L/n, will you marry me?â His hands held open a box with the most perfect ring youâd ever seen.
Tears welled up in your eyes and a watery smile rose to your face. You were speechless, so at first all you could do was nod, then finally you exclaimed,
âYES!â
Both of your hands were shaking as he slipped the ring onto your left hand, and then he stood up, pressing you into a deep kiss.Â
You were on cloud nine.
You heard shouts behind you, breaking the kiss to see Harrison and Tuwaine cheering and recording on their phones.Â
âWait a second, whereâs Harry?â
Nearby, a bush rustled and out stepped the twin, camera in hand.
âYou guys all really planned this for me?â you asked, elated.
âAnything for you, babe. I was worried that it would be ruined by the rain, but it looks like things worked out just right,â he answered.
You stared down at the ring, still not quite believing everything, but your gaze eventually fell down to your watch.
âWell, I hate to kill the mood, but Iâm so hungry I donât know what to do with myself, and itâs time to go anyways, so letâs get out of here!â
$
You rode in Tomâs car while the other boys piled into Harryâs. They arrived first and were waiting at the door when you arrived.Â
âAlright, follow us, we have a private room,â Haz said, the three boys leading you and Tom that way.Â
You had a feeling the dinner was an engagement celebration, but had no expectation of what happened next.
The doors opened to tons of people yelling âCongratulations!â while holding cute balloons and champagne glasses. You scanned the room and were happy to see Tomâs family and friends from London and home, including the oneâs that had been there that night in Nashville.
The most surprising thing, however, was your family. You hadnât seen them in almost a month due to work and travel, so immediately you ran into their arms.
âShe said yes, by the way!â Tom exclaimed happily, causing another round of cheers from the crowd.
âI canât believe you all came!â you said to everyone, especially towards your US friends.Â
âWell it wouldnât be a real engagement if we didnât celebrate with something special,â one friend said.Â
âWhat do you mean?âÂ
With that, she plopped a hat onto your head. You pulled it off, confused until you got a good look at it. It was the hat you were wearing the night you met Tom.Â
âWe were gonna bring the boots and booty shorts, too, but I think what youâve got goinâ on is a little classier,â another friend piped up, garnering laughs from your friend group.Â
You pressed the hat back over your head, not caring if it squished the curls youâd gotten to lay perfectly not too long before.
âWell, then. Letâs get this rodeo started!â you exclaimed, gathering yet another of many cheers you and Tom would receive that night and for years to come.
$
A/N: Omg guys. I did it. I wrote something new. Iâm thinking about making this a two shot, where the second part is more from Tomâs perspective and explores his visits to the US and Iâll call it Nashville Girl. Idk if any good songs exist that would tie in but whatever.Â
Anyways, love you all and thank you for your continued support! Please stay safe and STAY HOME!

EPIPHANY SERIES // OUTER BANKS // CHAPTER TWO.
(n.) a moment when you suddenly feel that you understand. or suddenly become conscious of something that is very important to you.
âCare to seize the day, my friend?â
Outer Banks                                                              Season 1-                                                             FEM OC! and ?
Here is the link to Chapter One if you have read it already <3 Check it out!!
'I'm going to kill that rooster.'
Slapping a hand over my eyes, my vision red with the suns early morning rays, my ears ringing at the excisive cockerel, refusing to accept the fact that I'm already awake. Â The gentle patter of feet creaking against the uneven floorboards causes me to roll on my side, grabbing what I'm assuming is my pillow.
Why is my pillow so... boney? And retracting against my grip.
Oh well.
"May," I hear someone croak, not having the energy to reply I just hum, pulling my pillow closer to me, "May, stop that tickles," they let out in a breathy voice.
Scrunching my eyebrows together, 'why's my pillow talking?' I open one eye in confusion at the voice and that's when I realised I wasn't in my room, in my bed. No. I was on the couch and the pillow that I thought I was holding so dearly happened to be JJ's foot.
I let out a shriek at the sight of JJ's toes being in such close quarters with my face, causing the boy to jump slightly, kicking me in the nose, knocking me off the couch, smashing face-first against the floor, "Ouch."
"I don't want to know how you manage that," the toneless voice of John B echos through the room. Stepping over the heap that is my body, he slaps JJ's leg, "Yo, JJ, you been outside?"
"I have polio, bro. I can't walk," Â he grunted, voice muffled against his pillow.
Hearing John B's steps fade away, as a whip of wind squeezes through the gapping door, shaking a shiver down my spine.
I refuse to get up. I refuse. I live here now. On the floor. The hard and cold floorboards. This is my home now. Do you need me? You know where I'll be. On the ground. Where I belong-
"Ouch," I wince, the air being knocked out my lungs as a pair of feet stump down on my back, quickly retracting at the sound of my pain. "What are you doing on the floor?" I hear JJ ask, but I refuse to look at him or give him a proper answer, just huffing and grunting.
"Come one May, get up," I hear JJ say, tapping my head lightly before another wave of goosebumps run up my arms as the door bounced close again. Leaving me in a heap of self-pity, on the ground, with a 'broken' nose.
Cursing under my breath, I push myself to my feet, instantly feeling a rush of heat in my nose. Huffing, I stuff tissue up my bleeding nostril, staring at my dishevelled appearance in disgust. I attempt to flatting the creases in my shirt and brush my fingers through the bird's nest on my head before heading outside.
'Dang, Aggie did us a number,' I thought looking around our mess of a garden. The big oak tree now laid haphazardly across the grass being ripped out by the roots. Our trash cans are nowhere to be seen and I'm pretty sure that's our neighbour's dog house smashed to piece beside John B's van.
"What about the DCS? Wasn't that today?" I hear JJ ask my brother who is currently rummaging through the fallen branches that the storm blow onto the boat. Walking closer to the boys, John B replies, "Nah, they're not gettin' on a ferry" shaking his head.
"Thank god," I say, cringing at how nasally my voice sounds, tiptoeing around the puddles burrowing in the grass. "What happened to your face?" John B sniggers, making me point accusingly at our blonde friend, "Ask him."
"Hey, don't blame me," holding his hands up in defence, laughing slightly at my current state, but I don't find it very funny, especially this early in the morning, "Oh, so what, you didnât kick me in the face?"
"It was an accident."
"An accident won't fix my broken nose."
"Okay, you're nose isn't broken."
"How do you know? Want me to kick you in the face and-"
"Guys!" John B yells, interrupting us from going any further, "We don't have time for this, God is telling us to fish."
Shaking my head at his attempt to reason, "I'm not fishing with a broken nose," I say, my toes curling in the damp grass. JJ lets out a sound of exhaustion, "Oh my God, May. Your nose is fine."
"See he still hasn't said sorry," Pointing at the boy who dares to belittle my swollen nose.
Having enough of us, "JJ, say sorry," John B sighs, jumping down from the boat. JJ whips around staring at his friend, mouth gaping like a fish as a smug smile creeps it's on my face, happy that John B is actually on my side, "Macy, you say sorry too."
Wait. What!
My previous stance of bouncing on the balls of my feet waiting expectingly for an apologize quickly changed to me mimicking JJ, "What, why?" I gape, not understanding why I should be sorry.
"JJ, apologize for kicking Macy, " John B starts as JJ tries to interrupt him, "But-" quickly catching his tongue at the dangerous look John B sends his way, "And Macy, apologize for being a diva," this time I interrupt, "But-".
"Now please!" he demands, walking past us, making his way up to the Château, "I'd like to go fish today," slamming the door behind him for emphasis. And with that, it was just me and JJ.
I looked out at the marsh, refusing to look at the boy who was leaning against the boat with his arms crossed over his chest. It was quite a nice day. Perfect fishing weather. Shaking my head at my antics, I gave in, "I'm sorry," we both said.
Looking at each other in surprise, lightly laughing as I stick my hand out for him to take, "Shake on it?" I ask JJ who looks at my hand with amusing eyes, "Sure," clasping his hand around mine giving it a firm but soft shake.
Nodding, pleased with our transaction, I go to move back, pulling my hand indicating him to let go. He doesn't. Blinking at him, I try to pull my hand away again but he's not letting up, just staring at me before pulling me towards him, rubbing his knuckles against my head.
"Ow, JJ" I shriek trying to escape his arm that is wrapped tightly around my shoulder, "You know I hate knuckies," I plead as he just laughs eventually releasing me. Smirking at my tangled hair, he attempts to smooth out the knots with his fingers, "Come on May, let's go fishing."
The Outer Banks is no stranger when it comes to storms, having a hand full of them each year. It's always the same; sunken boats, eroding docks, fallen trees, and no power for weeks. Aggie made it her duty to make the beginning for summer a doozy, having no remorse on her destruction.
"We'll be cleaning this all summer," I point out sitting at the bow of the boat, feet dangling just above the murky marsh. "That's my worse nightmare," John B complains, sailing us past the docks that are filled with locals cleaning up the mess.
'Is that? It can't be. She everywhere!'
"Morning, Miss Amy, Mrs Adams," John B greets, slowing down as we pass the two ladies who are sweeping up the dock, "You guys get through it?" he asks politely.
I look in the opposite direction of the pair, refusing to acknowledge her presence as I lay on my back, hoping that the boat will just suck me in and away from this interaction.
"Still here," I hear Miss Amy, Mrs Adams daughter, say. I know, if it was hard enough to believe that Mrs Adams was married, her having children sounds ludicrous.
"Oh John B, how's your neck of the woods? Everything good?" I wanted to gag at her act. She always tries to turn on her sweet, old lady charm when it comes to John B, always kissing up to him, but heâs so blinded by her words that he refuses to acknowledge the fact that she's evil.
"And JJ, my sweet boy, how are you?"
'God, if you're out there, I know you can hear me. Please, I'm not asking for much, just get me out of here. Please! Have some mercy on my soul.'
"I'm good Mrs Adams. You're looking dazzling as always," JJ comments as I whisper, "Give me a break," under my breath.
I didn't even have to look to know her reaction. She probably fanning herself with her hand, begging the boy to stop, but secretly hoping that he'll jump off the boat and into her arms, "Please JJ, you're too much," and that just confirmed it.
"Mason and I have our work put out for us, but we'll get by," John B answers and Mrs Adams pretends to have just noticed me despite our, not at all warranted, proximity, "Oh Mason, I didn't even see you there, dear."
This is what Mrs Adams does. She acts all innocent around other people but when it's just me and her, she turns into the spawn of satan. And that why nobody believes when I say she hates my guts because she turns on the charm like it's her second job.
Having to face the music, I sit up, against my better judgement, and smile brightly at the lady, "Hi, Mrs Adams, still in one piece I see."Â
Unfortunately.
"Yes," she smiles back, but I see that look in her eyes, the look of hatred, "It would take more than a hurricane to knock me off my feet," she laughs at her joke and I mimic her.
Feeling the tension in the air, John B clears his throat, "Well, it was lovely talking to you ladies, but we have to go now," he announces, the boat picking up speed in hopes of breaking the glaring eyes that Mrs Adams and I are exchanging.
Shaking her head slightly, she smiles at my brother, "Have a lovely day John B. You too JJ, see you later," she waves and instantly resumes back to sweeping the dock with her daughter who sends a look my way, silently apologising for her mothers behaviour.
"God May, why are you so rude to Mrs Adams?"
"She nothing but a sweet old lady."
Spinning around to face the boys, my voice not wavering, "She's the devil incarnate," I deadpan, "It's not a coincidence that her name is Agatha, and storm Agatha just ruined our summer. She had something to do with it, I know it."
"Devil incarnate or not, her daughters hot," JJ gushes at the thought of Miss Amy. Seeing my face wrinkled in disgust he continues, "What? Did you not see the way she looked at me?"
"I see how delusion you are," I admit, innocently ginning at the boy who flips me off, "I'm not the one fraternising with the enemy," I defend, finding it frankly unnerving that he is so opinionated about Miss Amy.
"Your enemy is just shy of retirement."
"Not shy enough."
"Well, look who we have here," John B states as we pass 'Heywards Seafood' spotting Pope hosing down the deck with the saddest face I've ever seen, "We have a safety meeting. Attendance mandatory," mimicking static as he speaking into his shoulder.
"I can't," Pope says looking at his Dad who's making his way over, a scowl painted on his face at the sight of his son's friends, "Pops got me on lockdown."
"Come on man. Your dads a pussy. Over," JJ smirks seeing the man in question standing behind  Pope, "Oh, I heard that, you little bastard," he insults, staring the boy down.
"Hey, Mr Heyward," I greet now standing, giggling at the man hostility, "We need your son."
"Yeah, island rules," JJ starts, now standing beside me, "Day after a hurricane a free day," he points out like its obvious. "And who made that up?" Mr Heyward conspires, looking at the boy expectingly.
"JJ," I nod at the man, the same time as JJ says, "The Pentagon," earning me a look from the blonde.
Out the corner of my eye, I see John B edging Pope on the boat trying to not get caught by the boy's hot-headed father.
Mr Heyward has had no problem voicing his distaste for his son's friends. To use his words, we're 'A bunch of good for nothing, sons of bitches, who are ruining his son's image'. What Mr Heyward refuses to believe, despite the fact that he has most likely noticed it himself, is that his peculiar son is a Pogue just like the rest of us.
"I have a card," JJ fishes through his pockets looking for a card that everyone knows he does have, but in his attempt to distract Pope dad he's putting on his best act.
As soon as Pope step foot on the boat, after quickly dumping the hose that is now shaking and spraying wildly over the dock, John B hastily hit the gas, leaving the boy's dad on his lonesome. Â
"I'll do it tomorrow," Pope tries to reason, but his dad is having no of it, "I'm sorry," he apologizes to his dad, who is shouting in the distance, "You'll be cleaning shrimp and your dirt-ass room."
"We'll bring your son back in one piece," I promise the man who just points accussingly at me, steam coming out of his ears, "We've fallen out Mason."
'That's it. My one true friend is gone, just like that. I only stole his son, what's the big deal?' I thought.
Rushing over to Pope who is now sitting where I previously sat, "Can you please tell your dad that I'm sorry," I beg sitting beside him as I attempt my best puppy dog eyes.
With his hand clasped over my knee, "It's too late. We're both blacklisted now," sorrow filling his voice as I pretend to cry, "I can't believe it. I'm now in the same category as those two," I point at my mess of a brother and best friends who are wrestling each other over the controls of the boat.
"Kie's our only hope," Pope admits, looking upon the disgrace that he has the pleasure of calling his friends.
"Ask and she shall come,â I smile, noticing Kie walking down the dock, cooler in hand.
"Oh, top o' the mornin' to ya," JJ greets, giving up on his attack against John B, now lounging against the side of the boat, "Morning boys. Macy."
"Ma Lady," I joke, holding out my hand for her, that she graciously takes. Stepping onto the boat, she dumps the cooler in between me and Pope, "Whatcha got? Some juice boxes?" asks Pope, opening up the cooler.
"Some Reese's Cups since you ate all mine?" I question, raiding through the cooler, seeing no Reese's Cups but plenty bottles of beer. My comment earns me a sharp flick on the ear, "Ouch," I complain, holding my the side of my head like it's going to fall off.
"Oh give up, you big baby," she laughs, nudging my legs apart, settling herself in the space between, leaning her back comfortably against my chest.Â
Normally I wouldn't mind, but the wind that is whipping its way up the marsh is blowing Kie hair into my face. I splutter and spit as strands fly into my mouth, slapping my hand around in hopes of regaining my vision that is being blocked by her mop of hair.
"What about my type of Juice box?" JJ asks, grinning triumphantly when Kie hands him a beer, "Skoal," he cheers, wasting no time in chugging the bottle.
Reaching back, Kie hands me one, but I shake my head, "Can't. I'm babysitting Wheezie this afternoon," I point out, making Kie pull a face, disappointment lacing her voice, "I can't believe you willing work for Sarah Cameron's dad."
If it hasn't been made obvious, Kie doesn't like Sarah Cameron, my bosses oldest daughter. Doesn't like is putting it lightly, she hates her guts. That about right. You see Kie being partly Kook caused her to try and make Kook friends and one of those friends use to be Sarah Cameron. I'm the only one that knows why she hates her so much and honestly her opinion's valid.
"He works for her dad too," I point at my brother, not wanting to be the only one under Kie's fire. John B just holds his hands up defensively and states, "I'm not a part of this," before passing the controls of the boat to Pope, seeing as though he wants to drink after the tough couple of days we've had.
"I know what will cheer everyone up," slurs an already drunk JJ, "Hey Pope. Can you go a little faster?" He asks, stumbling his way to the front of the boat on wobbly legs.
"This doesn't work," John B calls out from his lounging position at the back of the boat, taking a swig of his beer as he looks upon the determined blonde, "We've tried this like 6,000 times."
"I've got this. It's gonna work," he believes and I encourage him, even with the linger of doubt that can be heard in my voice, "You prove them wrong, JJ."
He begins to clap for himself, taking his position unevenly at the edge of the boat, "I present to you, Lady, Gentlemen, and May, my party trick."
"I hope you fall off the boat," I deadpan, my previous support completely gone after his comment. Tilting the bottle that he held high, he attempts to finesse the winds to direct the liquid into his wide mouth. Ultimately missing just like all the times before.
Kie rushes away from the splash zone that has been made with JJ's party trick, "You're getting beer in my hair," she complains moving to sit beside John B.
His face was now stiff with sticky beer, but JJ didn't care. He was having fun, enjoying the feeling of the early morning sun looking down on him as the wind blows through his hair. I'm having fun too. Watching his stupid ass attempt his flawed party trick is very entertaining.
Getting ready to applaud his failure, I'm harshly launched forward as the boat comes to an abrupt stop. Slamming my back against the side of the boat, winding me as I begin to see double. The world was spinning, my ears ringing from the force whilest the rest of my bodt erupts into painful tingles.
"Everybody alright," I cough, rubbing my head, looking at my friends who are all laying sporadically over the boat, feeling the same ache that I am. Only having the energy to grunt, Kie cries, "Jesus, Pope!"
Noticing the lack of a certain opinionated blonde, I crawl to the bow of the boat, losing balance as my head throbs, "JJ!" I call looking out into the marsh catching no sight of the boy.
"JJ!" Still nothing. Not even a ripple in the water.
"I didn't mean it when I said I wanted you to fall off the boat, you just annoyed me with you stupid comment, I didn't-" my apologetic ramble halting when JJ's head floats above the water, chocking on the warm marsh water as he groans out in pain.
Breathing in relief, "Are you okay?" I ask, feeling bad for the boy who just bodyslammed into next week, "I think my heels touched the back of my head," he coughs, Â floating on his back with his eyes squished shut.
"Pope, what did you do?" JJ cries at the boy. "Sandbar. The channel changed," he replies, but his eyes are glued to the water, not paying his full attention to his friend who he just threw a mile.
"Yeah, no shit," he starts swimming back to the boat, "Saved my beer, though," he cheers, seeing the light in his situation. Nobody else seems to care though. John B grunting, still in pain from his fall, "Congrats, JJ."
Pope's quietness was unsettling to me, normal never missing a beat at throwing a jab at JJ. Instead, he was staring sternly at the marsh. Clasping my hand on his shoulder, I hope to gain his attention, but his eyes didn't waver, "Hey, you okay?" I ask, thinking he was shaken up from the sudden crash.
"You see the boat too, right?" he points my eyes in the direction of the murky water. Leaning forward, I see what has Pope so confused. There was, in fact, a boat, a sunken boat, at the pit of the marsh, "Yeah," was all I could say, head tilted at the bizarre finding.
"Guys... there's a boat down there," he announces, still not moving as he calls out to our friends.
"Shut up, Pope," John B lets out a breathy laugh that I shake my head at. "No, he's serious. Look," I point at the obvious outline of a boat.
"Holy shit," Kie curses, releasing he was telling the truth, "He's right. Let's go," throwing off her shorts, diving in beside her concussed friend, John B following soon after.
"You think there's a dead body down there?" Pope wonders, teeth chattering at the thought. Humming and hawing at his question, I kick off my short saying, "Only one way to find out," pushing the reluctant boy off the boat before jumping in myself.
I don't know exactly what I was supposed to be looking for. A dead body? No thanks. I rather not have that image imprinted in my brain. What I did notice though, in between the disgusting floaters in the water, was that the boat looked in great condition. Its paint job was near to new, meaning it couldn't have been down under for too long.
This might have just happened. And judging by the lack of sealife that usually takes refuge in sunken wrecks it probably did.
Also, it looked as though it was a Grady white which is confusing. Those things are about $500 thousand minimum, you know, pocket money for a Kook. But if this was a Kooks boat, why haven't I heard their arrogant asses complaining about their boat sinking?
Laughing when we reach the surface again, breathing in big gulps of air that sting my lungs slightly, "You guys saw that, right?" JJ asks as we pull ourselves back on the boat.
"That was a Grady White," I confirm our assumptions, ringing my hair out over the side of the boat, "Yeah. That's the boat I saw when I surfed the surge," John B confesses breathlessly.
"You did what?"
"You surfed the surge?"
"That's my boy. Pogue style," JJ cheers, patting my brother on the back, congratulating him for his stupidity.
"Hey, I think you dropped this," I sympathise, pretending to pick something up off the deck. John B looks at me confused, eyes darting around the floor, looking for the whatever it was I was suggesting, "Dropped what?"
Seeing my opportunity, I clipped him on the back of the head, my brother instantly darting back up straight, hissing, holding the back of his head, "Your common sense, you moron. What the hell were you think? Oh right. You clearly weren't since you surfed the surge!"
"Chill Macy. I'm fine, nothing happened," he says attempting to calm me down but it wasn't working, "Beside Pope was with me too," he throws his friends under the bus trying to defend himself.
Turning around to a now sheepish Pope, "Okay I expected it from him," pointing accusingly at my brother who looks insulted, "But you Pope..." I try to hide the disappointment that I'm feeling.
"Okay May, don't guilt-trip the boy," JJ buts in, throwing his arm around my shoulder for comfort, but nothing was comforting about what he said next, "And you can't deny, what they did was pretty cool."
Scoffing, I shove his arm off me and settle myself at the back of the boat, arms crossed over my chest. I can't believe they would be so... so irresponsible. There was a hurricane and they somehow thought that it would be smart to go surfing? Thankfully nothing happened, but that's not the point. They didn't know that. One wrong move and- I don't even want to think about it.
"Wait, wait. Do we even know whose boat that is?" Pope asks, watching as John B pulls out the anchor, "No, but we're about to find out," he smiles cheeckly, not even giving a second thought to what heâs about to do.
"Dude, it's too deep," JJ says, being the voice of reason for a change, but I show no interest at all. I'm done. If John B wants to be stupid and reckless, then he can be: stupid and reckless.
"Oh, for the weak and feeble, JJ," John B points out, heading to the bow of the boat, rusty anchor in hand, his confidence clearly high, "Well, I'm not resuscitating you. I'm just making that clear up front," JJ holds out his hands, moving back, making way for my moron of a brother.
"That's fine." John B replies not even giving it a second thought as he hold the anchor tightly to this chest. Preparing himself for his descend down to the wreck.
Looking back at my slumping figure that is radiating discomfort at this whole situation, "John B," Kie exhales, shaking her head at the boy, coming to sit beside me. She pulls my head to rest on her shoulder and tightly clasps my hand in hers.
"Diver down, fool," Fool's an understatement.
"Diver down."
"Yeah, he is," JJ declares, shoving John B into the marsh once more.
Looking down at our hands, I ask Kie, "Do you think I exaggerated?" Beginning to feel the dwelling of my words, moisture gathering behind my eyes.
I completely blow up in his face without letting him explain himself. Not that there was much to explain, but God I suck.
As subtle as possible, I try to wipe my nose with the back of my hand, but Kie noticed. Kie notices everything. Turning, she clamps both hands on my cheeks, urging me to look at her. "No. Macy, your feelings are completely valid," she reassures, using the pad her thumbs to wipe away the streaks that travel down my face.
"He's your twin brother for crying out loud. You're allowed to feel protective of him and call him out on his bullshit."
Smiling at her comment, I wrap my arms around her, "Thank you," I mumble, not even sure if it was audible enough for her to hear, but she did. "Don't thank me, Macy. We're family, remember? Pogues for life," she states pulling away, holding the pad of her thumb up, and I do the same, stamping them together as though sealing our words.
Giggling at our antics, I turn to the boy who I dragged into this, "Hey Pope," I called, catching his attention from watching the water, "I'm sorry for blowing up on you," I apologize and hold my hand up when I see him going to object, "It was completely unwarranted and uncool."
"It's not that big of a deal, but I accept your apology," he beams pulling up from my seat for a quick side hug. Grinning at the boy, I feel as though a weight has just been lifted off my shoulders, even though I know he just accepted my apology because he knew it would set my worries at ease. I acted stupid and I relise that now.
Nevertheless, our peaceful moment of forgiveness sunk faster than that Grady White as JJ voices his opinion.
"Okay, now I feel left out. Where's my hug?" He whines with that shit-eating grin across his face. He opens his arms wide with wriggling fingers, eyes sealed close as he waits for an embrace. I know he was excepting a quick-witted comment from me with the way he is exaggerating his movements, but itâs only fair.
The shock on his face must be quite the picture, hearing Kie and Pope snort from behind me. I'm in a good mood today so, wrapping my arms around the boy's torso tightly felt right. I wait patiently for him to reciprocate the affection, but based on the stark shock that I felt shot up his back, he was startled by the sudden warmth of my hug.
For a second, I swear I felt him relax and sink into my embrace. The sensation of his fingertips ghosting over my back causes the hair on my arms to stand on end. My body erupting into a cluster of goosebumps.
As already stated, peaceful moments don't last very long in the Outer Banks.
John B, like a whale, bursts through the tension of the water and splutters, spitting the salty flavour of the marsh off his tongue.
Feeling vulnerable with the new pair of eyes, JJ and I rip apart in fright, standing a good distance away from each other.Â
Hoping to look as inconspicuous as possible, I rub the back of my burning neck, coughing lightly as I watch John B haul himself back on the boat.
Noticing the thick tension in the air, John B spins around glancing at all his friends, "What's up?" he asks, not understanding why we were standing in silence.
"Nothing," I say shaking my head, instant cringing at the pitch of my voice. Clearing my throat, I try again, "Why would something be up?" acting naturally, answering his question with a question.
Eye flicking back and forward, "I dunno," John B's voice laced with uncertainty, "You looking a little red there, JJ," he points out causing Kie to wheeze at her friend who does, Â in fact, have a pink tinge crawling up his neck.
Running his hands through his damp hair, hating the attention that is one him, he asks John B, "Any looting potential?" hoping to change the subject and it works.
Pope throws in his pennies worth, "Dead bodies?" he ask earning a look from all of us, "What?" holding his hands up in defence under the stares, not understanding what warranted him the looks.
"You're obsessed," I state the obvious observing the strange boy who just slumps back in disappointment.
"No," John B points at Pope, triggering his disappointment even more, and turn to JJ saying, "Kinda," holding up whatever he fished from the sunken boat, "I found this motel key."
"A key?"
"Great! We salvaged a motel key."
"I think it's a great find," I cheer, my voice straining with enthusiasm for my brothers find, patting him lightly on the back, but he saw right through me, "I've already forgiven you. You don't need to suck up," he points out, referring to early.
"Thank god," I let out in relief, sitting slouched on the side of the boat, now feeling confident enough to voice my real opinion, "What are we going to do with a motel key?"
Having enough for the day, wanting nothing more than to just get back to land and as far away from the expensive wreck as possible. Pope switches the engine back on and drives back in the direction of the cut.
"Guys," Kie calls over the roaring engine, "We should report the wreck to the coast guard. Maybe we'll get a finder's fee" she suggests, her head obviously in the right place.
"Yeah, and not have to work all summer," concludes JJ, dreaming of the money that we'll recieve for our finding, "Thanks, Agatha, ya batch."
Oh yeah.
Work.
Chapter two: FIN!
I really didnât know when to end this chapter, but I hope this was okay :) Iâm really trying to convey Masonâs character through her interactions with other people. Like how she got upset at John B for acting stupid.
What did you think?
Am I going to slow? Is my slow-burn too slow-burn?? Iâm only 15 minutes into writing episode one. Have I dragged it?? I hope not. I enjoy detailed fanfiction because it feels more real.
I also donât want Mason to just be there, not really having any input so, some of the showâs dialogue has changed and I will continue to do so. I want her to be her own person, with her own differing opinions.
I hope you enjoyed this chapter <3
Also, if anyone would like to be tagged in future chapters just let me know and I will for sure do that!

I Promise
Requested: Anon - Could you write a Sweet Pea x reader where she's an orphan who used to live on the Southside, but then a foster family on the Northside took her in, so they don't really get to see each other for a few years, but they reunite when Sweet Pea transfers to Riverdale High and she defends him to Reggie and Cheryl? Thank you so much if you can! I love your stuff!! -&
A/N: I took it in a slightly different way but kept the main theme. I hope you like it anon.
Warnings: Violence. Cursing. Angst. Fluff
Word Count: 3649
When I was 7 my mom and dad got killed. I tried to keep it on the down low I was losing all my friends and I truly didnât know what to do. For a few months, I was on my own their was secretive and no one knew about it because it was gang related. One day while I was in my friend's trailer doing homework there was a knock at the door. We opened it and Social Services was standing in front of me. They told me I had to go pack my stuff because they were obligated to take me away. I didnât want to leave I was only 7 my whole life I knew the Southside and I was being ripped out of it. My friend even tried hiding me so we couldn't be found, but in the end, I was carried out kicking and screaming. For a while, everything was very difficult. No one wanted a girl from the South Side so I was in the foster system for 3 years before I got adopted. I got a few letters from my best friend for the first few years while I was in foster care but I didnât answer I couldnât. It hurt, not being able to see him and being away it tore a hole inside my heart. It's been 5 years with my parents and I love them dearly but the hole in my heart never left. The friends I had were ripped away from me, my parents didnât hate the southside but I wasnât allowed there alone and they would never step foot across the line. I saw people once in a while at Pops, but no one I was really close with. I should have tried harder to visit but I couldnât. Seeing them and not being able to stay would have been so much worse. So I kept to myself. Most people on the Northside hated me, and I had a lot of enemies. I didnât âfit inâ. I was the girl who wore fishnets under her jeans and flannels around my waist. I may have been 7 when I left the Southside but I knew where I came from. The first few years at Riverdale I conformed. I was the good girl that worse the outfits that made me blend in, but when I hit high school that all changed. I was tired of not being who I was. My parents kept a tighter rope on me afraid that I would leave them and go to the southside. Even though I felt the southside was my home and I hated to admit the northside did too. I dressed the way I did because I didnât want to forget. All I had was a few photos of my parents, the letters, my mom's jacket and a necklace with a snake that I was given by my best friend before I left. I didnât understand much I knew my parents were killed and I knew it was a gang, I knew they tried to protect them but something went wrong and that was it. I tried to stay hidden. I didnât want to be noticed I wanted to get through high school and move away. I loved my parents but the Northside the people here. They were not the people I wanted to be with. I started getting through school by going and then leaving that was it. Today was one of the hard days it felt like I hadnât breathed. The Bulldogs were mad about something and I ignored them like I always. I was standing against my locker listening to music when I heard Mantle yelling in the hallway. I started walking the other way crashing into some girl with pink hair. âIâm so sorryâ. I started to turn around again not caring Reggie was there. He was talking to the one and only Veronica Lodge. I overheard them talking about how our school was combining with another but to be honest I didnât really care. I walked home that day going into my room doing my homework and then falling asleep like every other day.
I walked into school the next day seeing a welcome table and a super excited Andrews and Lodge. I stood against my locker again pulling my books outside of my bag and tossing them in. The door to Riverdale slammed open and in walked a group of kids wearing flannels, leather and combat boots. It couldnât be. The walked passed me towards the welcome table and I saw it. The serpent that matched my mom's jacket. The school that transferred was Southside High. I saw some of my old friends in the group but I didnât think they would remember me so I didnât wanna say anything. The one person I looked for I didnât see. I noticed one guy thought he was really tall something about him was familiar but I couldnât put my finger on it. I knew how the southside was if you left you were seen as a traitor who abandoned their family. I knew that was how they would see me and I didnât need the attention. I was about to walk away I didnât wanna be noticed. But of course something had to interrupt me, the oh so famous Cheryl Bombshell, or Blossom I mean. She had this grudge against the South Side one that made no sense entirely. Her father killed her brother no one else, but she couldnât get that through her damn brain if she even had one. I watched it unfold Cheryl saying some stupid shit and then the girl I bumped into sending her back with a remark. I could see myself being friends with that pink haired girl. I started to walk away as Reggie rounded the hallway bumping into me. Why did I have to be so fucking clumsy all the time? âHey look Y/N, finally some weirdos you can be friends withâ. He pointed to the serpents as I walked off I wasnât in the mood for his shit it was all too much. School went by casually there were a few serpents in my classes that I actually went to the ones I skipped I wasnât sure. It was lunch now one time I could actually be excited for. I walked into the cafeteria usually I grabbed my food and ate in the lounge. Thatâs what my plan was but of course like the rest of today my plans were ruined. I was about to walk past the Serpent table with my food when Reggie stood in front of me blocking my path, but unlike usual he wasn't talking to me he was talking to the Serpents. Archie tried to stop him, but Reggie wasnât having it. Cheryl even walked up next to him yelling at Jughead, I knew him I had seen him around school till he left but I had no idea he was a serpent. Reggie was going at this really tall kid while Cheryl was going at Jug. Something in me changed I was tired. Tired of everyone on the Northside thinking they were better than everyone else.
âHey, Cheryl why donât you shut the fuck upâ everyone stopped surprised I even said anything.
âExcuse meâ
âDid I stutter?â
âWhy donât you leave him alone, he did nothing to youâ
âNeed I remind you Y/N, his father killed my brotherâ
âI think your wrong there princess your father killed your brother so next time you should learn your facts. Stop trying to make yourself feel better by fucking tearing everyone else down when they did nothing to youâ she went to push me but I grabbed her arm shoving her into a table. âI say you go out of this cafeteria before that lipstick ends up on my hand from my fist hitting your faceâ. She left running out of the cafeteria the pussycats following her. I figured Reggie would have followed but he didnât. I hated Reggie more than everyone else. He always made sly remarks at me about being from the Southside. He started fighting with the tall guy again.
Fight*
âNo one invited Southside scum to our schoolâ
âYeah well were here Reggie so why don't you go on your way and weâll keep to ourselvesâ
âReggie settle down,â said Archie
âArchie need I remind you they showed up at your door trying to kick your assâ
The tall guy said âyeah and we are happy to finish what we startedâ but was held back by his friends.
I interrupted at that point stepping in front of Reggie âJust leave them the fuck alone Reggie they did nothing to youâ
âWhat's it to you Y/Nâ
âNothing but you donât need to be an asshole just to boost your frail egoâ
âWell at least I wasnât given up cause they didnât want me, they had to pass you onto us, we donât want you either so fuck off Y/Nâ I had it at that point. They knew I was adopted out of the Southside but they had no idea why. I had it, I punched him across the face my rings making small cuts along his cheek. He looked back up at me more pissed than I had ever seen him. Even more than when they lost a football game and let me tell you that was a look. He went to punch me but I grabbed his hand. The thing the Northsiders didnât was that my parents let me take self-defense and martial arts classes as my creative outlet. I grabbed his arm pushing it behind his back pushing his face into the table where the Serpents were. âHey mantle unless you want that pretty face of yours destroyed I suggest you stop being a jackass. Let the Serpent's be at our school peacefully they did nothing to you. Just because your scared they will steal all the girls doesnât mean you should pick fights you know youâll loseâ. I let him stand up thinking he would have left, but he didnât I started to walk away before my hair was grabbed and Reggie pushed me to the floor. âReally Mantle canât pick on someone your own size,â he thought I was down I kicked his leg from under him, he landed with a thud on the ground. I stood up. Punching him directly in the nose, it starts to bleed. He lifted his hand to his nose, but I punched him again. I saw black it was like it clouded my vision. I only stopped because the girl with the pink hair put her arm on my shoulder. I grabbed my bag running out of the room, and into the rec room. No one had a free period left in the day so I figured no one would come in. I couldnât go home not with blood on my hands anyway. I started freaking out I could have killed him. I couldnât breathe right. It scared me⌠what happened. I never was like that before in my life even when I boxed people. It was, different. I got knocked out of my thoughts hearing a âHeyâ
âHello? are you in here?â I stayed behind the couch my breath sighing. He came around the side of the couch, the tall guy from the cafeteria with Reggie. âUh⌠hi. Iâm sorry I didnât know anyone else would be here. I⌠I, uh am usually the only one with a free period right nowâ
âI didnât say I had a free period, and Iâm guessing you donât either considering no one has one during this periodâ I laughed. He grabbed my hand and I flinched away. âSorry⌠I brought a wet paper towel figured you probably would want the blood offâ
âTh⌠thanksâ he lifted my hand from my lap and I winced when the wet towel touched it. âSorry I know it stings, youâll get used to itâ
âWhat do you think Iâm going to do this again...â
âI mean hey if I can take a break from beating down the Northside and have you do it Iâll damn well take that breakâ Â
âI donât know, itâs a tough jobâ
âOh trust me I know, been beating them down for yearsâ
âWhy?â
âI donât know a long time ago the Northside, they took something from me. Something⌠importantâ
âWhat did they take?â
âItâs⌠complicatedâ
âYou donât have to tell me but why donât you get it back?â
âIâve been tryingâ
âDonât know where to find it? maybe I can help you look?â
âI donât know but when I do Iâll tell youâ we sat there talking for about an hour, about random stuff it was weird I never talked to anyone but with him it was⌠comfortable. The bell rang signaling that school was over. The girl with the pink hair came in âHey⌠ready to motorâ he looked down at me almost as a are you gonna be okay. I got up telling him Iâd see him later and I walked out. I walked home and somehow wasnât in trouble. I sat in my bed that night thinking about the boy I had talked to. I didnât know his name. I didnât even know his initials. But I felt close to him somehow. It was⌠weird.
The next day at school was really good I talked to the kid again and it was nice. Of course, Cheryl tried to start shit again, but I ended it almost immediately. I was walking through the school when I saw the girl with the pink hair. She was taking pictures. âHey are you a photographerâ
âWannabe but yeah⌠I guessâ
âIâm Toni by the way, I wanted to say thank you for the other dayâ
âDonât worry about it. I hate the people who live on this side of townâ
âDonât you live hereâ
âYeah⌠but, Iâ as I was about to finish she got pulled away by some kid she called Fangs. I started worrying. Should I tell them who I am or no? Would they even want to be friends with me? I went home that night it and it was all I thought about. I got knocked out of my thoughts when my phone beeped. A massive thread from Cheryl saying the Southside was going to get it and there was gonna be a fight at the abandoned lot. I ran as fast as I could. I donât know why but it just happened it was like my feet were carrying me and nothing else mattered at that moment except me getting there. When arrived it looked like they had been fighting for a little while. I saw the tall guy throw a punch at Archie before Reggie came up behind him hitting him in the back of my head. I screamed Toni saw me trying to pull me away but I couldnât I hate to protect him, something told me I had to. Dilton Doiley some weird scout kid pulled a knife scratching the tall guy across the chest Archie punching him in the face sending him to the ground. I started running towards him after getting out of Toniâs grip and Reggie went to throw a punch while he was on the ground. I caught it my fist meeting with his lip. âReggie I really gotta beat you up a second time?â I punched him again. He almost grabbed my leg but I jumped out of the way. I went to punch him again but I heard the sirens. Reggie got up running the tall guy still laying on the ground. âHey letâs get you up come onâ He stood up with my supporting his arm grabbing to his chest. âDo you have a car?â
âFunny⌠No car, but I have a bikeâ
âCan you even ride with your chest like that?â
âYeah I can just help me overâ I helped him he pulled me to climb onto the back and I did. I figured he would have gone to Pops or something but we crossed the line to the southside. He pulled up to a trailer it looked⌠familiar. I climbed off standing in shock as he walked to his front door. He looked over to me. âYou coming?â
âUh yeah⌠sorry I uh, nevermindâ I walked into his trailer as he walked in behind me. He told me to sit on the couch and I did as he went into the bathroom. I heard him help in pain. I figured he was trying to patch it up. âDo you want some help?â he screamed back yeah as I walked to the bathroom. He was sat on the toilet cleaning the cut on his face. I took the washcloth pouring the peroxide on it slowly dabbing it. He looked at me âYou're cleaning my cuts and I still donât know your nameâ
âI mean I don't know yours either, now take off your shirt so I can clean the cutâ
He started to pull off his shirt so I could clean the cut on his chest. That's when I saw it⌠the dog tags. âMy namesâ I interrupted him
âSweet Pea?â
âHow did you?â
âThe dog tagsâ
âWhat do you mean?â I took my necklace out of my shirt. His eyes looked in my almost an almost joyous look I hadnât seen before. âI need to tell you something⌠I found what the Northside stole from meâ He laughed, and I hugged him then, him wincing from the pain of my chest pressing to his.
âY/N I missed you so damn muchâ
âI missed you too Sweet Pea, I missed you so fucking much you have no ideaâ I took the peroxide, finishing cleaning the cut on his chest, and bandaged it. âI thought I wasn't gonna find you Y/N, I should have realized sooner but you looked so differentâ
âPea Iâm sorry I didnât realize it was you, you looked so familiar but I couldnât put my finger on it. You're so much taller so much more⌠nevermindâ
âI have a question though Y/Nâ, Why didnât you answer the letters. Why didnât you try to come backâ
A tear fell from my eye and I walked sitting on his couch again, he followed after he grabbed a shirt from his bedroom. He saw the tear when he sat down and wiped it away. âIâm sorry Y/N I⌠I didnât mean to make you cryâ
âItâs fine. I, I couldnât do it Sweet Pea. I couldnât contact you because after leaving thinking of the Southside thinking of how I had to leave everyone it hurt so fucking much. I could send the letter and talk yes, but I couldnât see you. I couldnât see anyone it⌠it killed meâ
âI never forgot about you Y/N⌠ever. I came to the northside I tried to find you sometimes but⌠I thought you moved. I even went to the foster place but they said they couldnât disclose contact information. I tried⌠so hard. I kept a picture of you with me everywhere I even asked Jughead but he said he never saw you.â
âYeah, I laid low on the Northside. Pea, Iâm sorry I didnât try harder I just⌠I couldnât lose you a second timeâ
His hand went to my cheek and he leaned staring me in the eyes âI promise you will never lose me again, I promised when we were kids I would always be with you that is why I gave you the necklaceâ I looked down grabbing it. âI kept it, I never took it off. It made me feel like I had a part of home. I may have forgotten things but this always helped me rememberâ
âYou never lost the Southside. You are always welcome here... you are familyâ
âIâm not family...people who leave the southside they aren't welcome. You have rules...laws that a serpent never sheds there skin. I did. I left my family. I left them and everyone probably hates me for it. I should go. I shouldn't even be hereâ he cut me off kissing me.
âY/N You did not lose us and we didnât leave you. You defended the Southside, we clearly never lost you either. I may not have recognized you at first, but I realized that Southside fire. Itâs in you, you never lost it, a jacket is a jacket, the heart of the serpent is inside of you Y/Nâ
âI can't lose you again Sweet Peaâ
âI promise you will never lose me⌠I will never lose you, not againâ A knock at the door pulled me out of my thoughts. Pea got up answering the door. âHey Fangs whatâs upâ
âWanted to check and see how you were after the fightâ he walked inside and saw me sitting on the couch.
âHey, your the girl that fought Cheryl and Mantleâ I nodded. Sweet Pea walked over grabbing my hand. âFangs this is Y/Nâ
âWait like Y/N, Y/N, like the girl you havenât shut up about finding since I met you.â He looked over to me âThis guy is obsessed with you. You fueled his hatred of the Northside, You were the gem he lostâ he kept going on and on till Sweet Pea pushed him out the door telling him to leave.
âSo you talked about meâ
âYeah⌠all the time I told you losing you hit me hard. I canât do it again Y/Nâ
âMe neither Pea I donât know what would happen if I didâ
âI promise you, you won't. I love you. I always haveâ

The Read
Title: The Read
Pairing: Dean x Black!Reader, Sam
Word Count: 1148
Summary: The reader finds a way to pass time in the car and now Dean wants to join in
Warnings: None. Just a couple of f bombs.Â
A/N: This is my first ever fic and Iâm super nervous about it, but proud of my work. Feel free to critique! This is for all my black girls who love Supernatural, but donât see themselves that much on the show or read it in fanfiction. Also shoutout to @thisistheread, the best podcast out there!
A/N: I know itâs not a writing challenge for @spnfanficpond but I just wanted to tag yâall.
Whatâs one of the most things you hate about hunting? The drive. Who really wants to be stuck in the car for hours on end? Then thereâs only so much arguing with Dean about whoâs the better Avenger, between Captain America and Ironman (Team Cap all day), and geeking out with Sam you could do. And most of the time you were stuck in the backseat, unless Sam stayed back for a hunt and with Dean being so neurotic about Baby you never got to drive her, and youâre a better driver than Sam!
But the worst thing about the drive was, THE FUCKING MUSIC! Its like Dean never heard of music past the 80s. And it was all classic rock, not even one fucking blues song! Sometimes you wondered how you two were compatible as a couple, a 40-year-old white dude from the Midwest and a 25-year-old black girl from the South. There was some songs you could belt out with Dean, like You Shook Me All Night Long, or the stripper anthems like, Cherry Pie and Pour Some Sugar On Me (Dean had a newfound love for those songs since you gave him a lap dance to them a couple of weeks ago). Â
Today was one of those days you could not listen to another AC/DC album again or you would start banging your head against Babyâs window. But thank God⌠or is it Chuck (youâre just gonna keep it with God, because you wouldnât even want to know what your southern Baptist mother would do if she knew you were calling God, Chuck).
Anyways, thank God you were behind on your favorite podcast due to all day and night research on how to get Michael out of Dean. Soon as you realized you had at least another 8 hours on the road, you popped your headphones in and got ready to listen to Kid Fury and Crissle on The Read, talk shit about celebrities, tell women to break up with their triflinâ ass boyfriends, and of course read people to filth.
You were two episodes in when Dean snatched your headphones out. âWhat the fuck, dude!?â You yelled as you smacked Dean across the head. âWhatcha you listening to that gots you laughing so hard that youâre not listening to your kick-ass boyfriendâs story about how he ganked Hitler?â Rolling your eyes, you replied, âReally, Dean? I was there. And how many times are you gonna tell that story? Its been over a year, get over it!â âItâs a great fuckinâ story.â With a mumble, Sam replied, âYeah, only the first time.â
âShut up Sam!â
âBitch.â
âJerk.â
You thought you were off the hook when the boys began to argue, but you just had to let out a cackle that might just rival Crissleâs, which cause you to gain your boyfriendâs attention once again. âHey, you never answered me. Whatcha ya listening to?â âUmmm, a podcast,â you replied in between giggles and not fully giving Dean your attention. But what he said next sure did, âWell, put it on your speaker. I need something to keep me awake and arguing with Sam is not fun anymore.â âHuh?â, you asked sounding like Scooby-Doo and big eyes. âIâŚsaidâŚputâŚitâŚonâ, Dean said slowly with the flicking of his bottom lip. âUmmmâŚumâŚum, are you sure? Its really not for the elderly?â, you said with a smirked. You thought you got him there, now he wonât want to listen. Its not that your ashamed of the show, itâs the quite opposite, but how do you introduce a black as podcast to your white ass boyfriend that you loved dearly? âYou werenât calling me elderly last night, when I had your legs-ââWhoa, whoa, whoa, dude I donât want to hear about thatâ, Sam interrupting Dean talking about your latest sexcapades. âWell tell Y/N to play the podcast or Iâll tell you one of her most embarrassing sex storiesâ, Dean threatened playfully.
âYou wouldnât dare!â, you gasped
Then, Dean began his countdown âIn 3âŚâ
âWhatever man, you not gonna do itâ
â2âŚâ
âAre you seriousâ
â1âŚâ
âBabe, pleeeeeease donâtâ, you whimpered.
â0. Well, Sammy there was this one time when Y/N/N was in Vegas-â
âOk, asshole! Iâll play it, but you gotta promise not to get offended, because I donât have time for your white tears!â
âWhat the hell is white tears?â
âIf you listen long enough, youâll find out. Now be quiet, theyâre just getting to the good stuff.â, you ordered as you hooked up your phone to the Bluetooth speaker.
You catch yourself not even pay attention to the podcast, but to the boysâ reactions. It was your favorite portion, the listener letters, which most of the time is about the listeners asking advice about their ainât shit boyfriends. But as Crissle began reading the first question, you stopped paying attention to the boys and gave Crissle your full and undivided attention. The listener was a girl who broke up with her boyfriend who cheated on her with her best friend and gave her a STD, but couldnât move out of their shared apartment because they shared a lease (WhewâŚchile, let Dean try something like that and the world would have one less Winchester).
After hearing the letter, you were thinking of your own advice you would give to the listener, but Kid Furyâs next joke had you spitting out your water and the whole car erupting in laughter, âJust kill him.â Before you missed anything else you had to pause the show and once there was silence Dean and Sam turned to you, âHey! Whyâd you turn it off?â âUm, because I refuse to miss another gem like that,â with a roll of your eyes. âNow shut the fuck up, so we can enjoy this masterpiece.â And thatâs exactly what the boys did for the next 4 hours except for a couple of full bellied laughs and everyoneâs take on what the listeners should do.
Once you guys reached your destination, you felt the most relaxed you had in weeks and you hadnât even started the hunt yet. Heading into the motel room Dean swung his arm around your shoulders and pulled you closer to him, âThat was great, sweetheart. I really needed that. Â We can listen to it on the way back home.â âProbably not. We caught up and episodes come out on Thursdays and today is Friday. Sorry babe.â When you told Dean this, he looked like a toddler who was about to cry because he got his favorite lollipop taken away. Thinking quick on your feet you offered, âOh we can just listen to Whorible Decisions.â
âWhorible Decisions,â Dean questioned.
âYeah its all about sex, and we can ruin sweet, Sammyâs virgin ears,â you mischievously smirked.
âOh, hell yeah!â Dean screamed.
Shaking your head, you knew you created a monster at that moment and you loved it.

Love of My Life
Roger Taylor x Reader

A/N: this is my first fic for Queen and also just in a while, I havenât written something for fun in a while so thereâs that. This is inspired by this post and @blushmis fic of the same name (they were the anon) so go check their story outÂ
He promised heâd call after the show but that didnât stop your anxiety from getting the best of you sitting by the phone, leg bouncing up and down. Itâs a different time zone. You never really know when the show will be over. He promised.Â
Roger and you had been together the better part of three years. You had been Brianâs neighbor for most of your life and he treated you like his little sister so when he went off to university with you two years behind him, you missed him dearly but were relieved to have space. Now you could be the rebellious teen youâd always tried to be but failed cause Brian was always by your side, keeping you out of trouble.
You packed a lot into those two short years. To your surprise, Brian was actually proud of you. Or at least thatâs what you thought until he practically forced you to attend the same uni as him. Which you didnât mind. Brian had become a changed man in college, joining a band, staying out late and going to parties after his gigs.
Your first day was great only because you finally got to see Smile, Brianâs band, perform. Although you werenât too fond of the drummer when you first met, something between then and now made you fall for him.
As soon as Freddie joined the band, you knew they would be a success. With Freddieâs vocal range and drive and the bands' raw talent and songwriting skills, there was no way they wouldnât hit the charts one day.
Roger became the infamous playboy, much to your dismay. You hadnât told anyone of your feelings for the drummer but you always had a sneaking suspicion Brian knew.
After weeks of meaningless bathroom hookups after gigs, hanging off each other at the afterparties and kisses that didnât even mean much, Roger stopped hooking up with other girls. You two never actually made it official. It was just an unspoken thing that you were his and he was yours.Â
Now they were on tour for A Night At The Opera which you sadly were not able to come on due to finances. Rog promised that he would call every Monday night, even if they had a gig and he hadnât missed one yet, no matter how late in the night it was that he called, you were there to answer.
You missed him more than words could express and could barely wait for him to get home in the following month.
But no matter how much you missed him and trusted him, you couldnât help but think about all the girls that throw themselves at him during shows and at the afterparties. You had more trust in him than anyone else but there was always going to be a part of your mind that wandered to those thoughts.
Sitting, anxiety bubbling in your stomach, the thoughts get the best of you. What if he was- is cheating? You would never know. Heâs a good enough liar although you know he would never want to lie to you. He would be honest and break and beg for your forgiveness.
He hasnât cheated before so itâs not like you have good reason to think he will. He knows your past and knows thatâs something unforgivable in your eyes. And you love the idiot so what are you suppose to do. Itâs just, this is the first time you havenât been by his side during a tour or recording session. Youâve always been there.
When the phone rings youâre not expecting it. Your heart is racing when you pick up the phone, whether from nerves or excitement you donât know.
Thereâs lots of noise on the other end. Heâs definitely at an afterparty. âY/N?â Knowing itâs you, he doesnât wait for a response. âIâm sorry Iâm calling so late, I got swept up. It was such a fantastic show.â
âRog, I canât-â You were cut off by Roger relaying the same thing you were about to say to him to you before saying heâd call back in a second, âjust let me find someplace quieter.â
You place the phone down with a shake in your hands. You know it will be easier for the both of you if youâre out of the picture, at least while theyâre on tour. Heâs at an afterparty, of course, there will be girls there, but hearing them yell Rogerâs name in the background of the call made your stomach churn with jealousy.
Youâre phone rings again but this time youâre expecting it, letting it ring through a couple of times before picking up. Itâs much quieter on the other end this time.
âSorry, it was so loud. I couldnât hear a thing.â Rogerâs soft voice comes through the receiver and you have to swallow back the tears closing up your throat.Â
âLook, Roger-â
âI miss you. Sorry for interrupting, I know how much you hate when I do that but I really miss you.â You can hear his sad smile through his words, making what you need to say ten times harder.
âI miss you too. But, Iâve been thinking about it a lot and I think itâs best if I stay out of your way.â You can hear Roger start to protest but you cut him off. âIt hurts to be apart from you for so long and not having any idea what youâre getting up to. I donât want to hold you back. I donât- I canât be that girl thatâs waiting at home for you. I love you. I am sorry. I just think weâll both be better off this way.âÂ
You hang up before he can answer, sinking further down into your bed. You donât bother wiping away the tears, letting them fall as they will while you focus on trying to breathe.
He calls the next morning. And the morning after that. For a week, he calls every morning. You never answer but you know itâs him. You have to keep telling yourself you made the right choice. Now he can do what he wants without being held back by the girl at home.
Nearly half a year later and you havenât spoken to the band in just about the same amount of time. Brian calls occasionally but you rarely have the heart to answer. As does Freddie, whom you find is easier to talk to. He never brings it up, acts like nothing has happened although he never mentions Roger. But even still, your chats are short and sweet, little updates here and there.
Queen, as a promotion for A Day At The Races, is holding a small concert that is going to be broadcasted. Your friends, being major Queen fans, are throwing a little viewing party. You didnât want to go but you support the band no matter whatâs happened.Â
Youâre currently sitting beside one of your closest friends, Margaret. Everyoneâs been walking on eggshells around you except for her. Itâs like the whole party thinks youâll hear the beginning riff to one of Queenâs songs and have a breakdown. But Killer Queen is playing lightly in the background and itâs having no effect on you. At least thatâs what youâre telling people.
The thought of seeing Roger, even if he is hundreds of miles away and on a screen, has got your stomach in knots. About a month after you broke up with him, you started hearing rumours about girls who were successfully throwing themselves at him. You werenât sure if there was any validity to such statements but a part of you believed them.
âHey, itâs starting!â Someone whose voice you donât recognize shouts from the other end of the apartment. Margaret rolls her eyes but only you notice. Sheâs the one who thought to throw this party and almost instantly regretted it, not being a social person.
Everything runs nice and smooth. They perform wonderfully, no shock there. Freddie has just as much spunk in him as he did when you first met him when he was living in the same flat as Roger.
You hadnât realized how much you missed them, all of them, and their music. and then the lights started dimming, putting a spotlight on Fred and Brian who started strumming a simple melody on his guitar. You instantly knew what song was about to play and your stomach pinched.
Love of My Life was one of your favorite Queen songs. It was the first song you had heard off of the album after Roger insisted on singing it to you in bed one night. Memories you had suppressed and tried to get rid of came back.
You make it through the rest of the performance but leave shortly after. All you want to do when you get home is collapse face down on your bed and cry. But thereâs another thing coming for you when you walk into your flat to your phone ringing, on the last line you suppose.
Forgetting the possibility that it could be Roger, you frantically cross the space of your flat, grasping for your phone from across the counter, âHello?â
âOh darling, you answered. Itâs been ages.â Freddieâs familiar voice rings in your ears and you find yourself frowning a bit.
âFred. Yeah, I guess it has been a while.â You force a smile onto your face, sensing that he can tell your upset although you donât know why. âI saw the show. You guys did wonderfully, as always.â
You can tell Freddie is smiling when he answers, âWhy thank you. I do think we did exceptionally well tonight.â
âThe rendition of Love Of My Life did get me. You have such a powerful voice.â The words slip from your lips without you noticing. You have no clue why youâve just told Fred this but you have a sneaking suspicion he does.
âItâs weird. For once, when I sang that tonight it wasnât for Mary or some lover. It was for you.â Freddie doesnât have to elaborate for you to understand what he means. âHeâs been in a mood since you left him. Itâs hard to get him up on stage sometimes dear.â
âI really fucked him up, didnât I?â You think back to when Freddie was performing tonight. You could vaguely see Roger in the background, taking a rest from playing the drums. He had his eyes closed. You canât help but think of how many times youâve cried over him, wondering if itâs the same for him. âI thought I was doing the right thing.â
âDo you not trust him?â Freddieâs question throws you.
âOf course I trust him. I trust him more than anything else in this world. I just figured it would be easier if I wasnât there, you know?â Youâre nibbling on your lip trying to keep the tears at bay.
âHe never cheated. Brian would have literally beat his ass. There would be little of Queen left if he had. Obviously, there were girls all over him at the parties but he never went home with any of them. He only had eyes for you darling. Only has eyes for you.â Thereâs a moment of silence that seems to stretch on forever. Freddie doesnât say anything even though youâre sure he can hear your sniffles.
âI love him.â
âHe loves you.â The words come from Fredâs mouth almost as soon as youâve finished saying your own and you have to pause to breathe.
âBut Fred, Iâve been cheated on before. Every guy Iâve dated has cheated. And Rog.. well Rogerâs built to cheat, heâs got the reputation to back him up.â You know itâs not a good argument. Whatever you say wonât be good enough because you know Roger was one of the best things to ever happen to you and you blew it.
âYou didnât blow it, sweetheart. He still loves you, donât think heâll ever stop. Itâs bloody annoying really. Wonât get out of his stupid funk.â Another beat of silence and you know heâs right but he doesnât give you time to agree. âWeâre doing some finishing touches on our album tomorrow. You should come down. Maryâll be there and the boys would love to see you after all this time.â
âWeâll see Freddie.â Is all you say back before goodnights are exchanged. If you werenât mistaken, you could hear Freddie telling Roger something about you as you hung up the phone.
You do show up. Of course, you do. When the Freddie Mercury, your beloved friend, asks you to come watch them record you come. There is no saying no even if you want to postpone this confrontation as much as possible.
Youâre laughing at something Mary has said when you bump into someone passing through the doorframe. You snap your head around uttering an apology but stopping in your tracks.
Roger looks at you, expression ranging from angry to happy to sad in a matter of seconds. And then heâs turning around. Huffing his way over to his drum kit which he starts tweaking immediately. Probably more as a distraction than anything else.
âDarling, you came!â Freddie beams, throwing his arms around you. He gives you a quick hug and peck on the cheek before taking Maryâs hand and pulling her into the other room.
When you turn around Brian and John are walking up to you. You smile brightly at Brian, engulfing him in a bear hug, and giving John a tight squeeze before leaning back to look at the two of them. âItâs been a while.â
âFeels longer than only a few months,â Brian says.
âWeâve missed you.â John chimes, giving a bright smile.
âAll of us,â Brian says noticing your gaze wondering in between them to the drummer behind them, making his hands busy with his drums. You look up with a half smile and sad eyes. âHeâs been in a mood.â
âFred told me.â You sigh. âBut that doesnât mean he misses me.â You cross your arms over your chest.
Brian gives you an all-knowing look. âWeâll give you two some space,â John says, ushering Brian out the door. You start to protest but the door is shut in your face before you can get the first word out.
You slowly turn around on the balls of your feet, biting your lip, not realizing how hard, and wincing as a result. Roger looks up from his drums for a split second. Your eyes are trained on the ground. âI would say Iâm sorry but,â
âYouâre not?â Roger finishes in question. Heâs moved around to the back of his drums, standing in front of the stool and looking at you accusingly. Although you can see the sadness in his eyes.
âNo. Because sorry isnât good enough. Saying I messed up and breaking up with you was the biggest mistake of my life isnât something youâd accept.â You hadnât realized you were getting choked up until you felt a tear fall down your cheek.Â
âBut itâs true. I fucked up. I fucked you up. I made the biggest mistake of my life breaking up with you and I am sorry. Really truly sorry. I never wanted to hurt you.â
âBut you did.â You look up to see Rogerâs features have softened. âYou hurt me. You broke my heart. And yet I still love you. How fucked up is that? I know you broke up with me because you thought it would be easier but itâs the exact opposite. I thought you trusted me.â His voice is getting louder and firmer and his last statement hurts your heart. He knows how much you value honesty and trust in a relationship.
Youâve moved towards him, halfway to his drum kit. Your hands involuntarily reach out for his which is why you stopped far enough away that you canât touch him. âI do, Rog. I trust you more than anything else in the universe. But not knowing, it got the best of me.â
âI would never cheat on you. Never.â The finality of his statement makes you want to close the distance between you two and hug him like itâs the last time youâd ever get to.
âI know.â Your voice is small and frail and your trembling, which you hadnât noticed before. âTrust me, I know. Just- fuck. I love you so god damn much and not being able to see you every day was tearing me apart. And with my past, although itâs no excuse-â
You hadnât realized that Roger had moved around his drum kit and was now standing in front of you. âItâs no excuse but itâs still valid as a reason.â You didnât have the heart to look him in the eyes, opting to stare at the intricate pattern of the carpet.
Roger made it hard for you not to look at him when he got down on his knees, looking up at you. When your eyes locked, you could see all the love he still had for you mixed with pain in his eyes. âI love. I always will. And I know you havenât forgiven me yet,â
âforgiven you?â
Roger shushes you, reaching into his pocket. You choke as he brings the box into your eye line. âYou havenât forgiven me yet but I forgive you even though I donât think you were wrong for what you did. I never cheated. I would and will never cheat on you but I understand fully why youâd think I would. I was going to do this after the tour ended but naturally, I couldnât. And Iâve got nothing to lose.
âY/N, I love you so much more than I can probably express in words but Iâll try. I love how you laugh and cry and smile and get angry and jealous. I love how your history is a part of you but not who you are. I love that you donât take anyone's shit and you stand up for what you believe in even if the world isnât listening. I love that you love me despite my petty tantrums and outbursts. I love how you are always there for me and somehow predict what Iâm going to do next better than I do.
ÂŤÂ I love how easily we work together and how smooth things have been for us. Even through the fights, we know we are bigger than them and get through it. I love how you tug on my hair in bed and how easy you are after gigs,â you glare at him for that one but itâs with a smile.
âI love how easy it is to love you. And I want that, well forever if youâll have me. So please, even though itâs cheesy, make me the happiest man in Queen and marry me Y/N.â
Somewhere in his speech, he opened the box. You werenât paying attention, too lost in his words to notice. But itâs a small little diamond, nothing extra or big. Itâs exactly what you had described as the perfect ring to Roger nearly eight years ago when you first met and he said he was gonna marry you someday.
Before youâre even nodding yes, Roger is taking the ring out of the box, and slipping it on your ring finger. âOf fucking course, Iâll marry you, Rog.â
Your smile is one that cannot be concealed even when he leans in to kiss you, wrapping his arms around your waist and pulling you ridiculously close to him. But you smile into the kiss anyway. One which turns heated very quickly. In both your defenses, you havenât seen each other in over a year with him having been on tour before everything happened.Â
Youâre laying on the scratchy carpet behind the drums, a sweaty, shirtless Roger collapsed on top of you when thereâs a knock at the door.
âI donât know if itâs make-up or break-up sex but we only have the studio for a certain amount of time,â John shouts through the door at the two of you.
âOh let the lovers be.â You can hear Freddie retort followed by Maryâs laugh.
Roger is quick to help you dress, not worrying about buttoning up his shirt as John manages to get the door open. âIt was never locked buddy,â Roger says as John staggers in, not expecting the door to open.
He gives Roger a baffled look as Brian eyes the two of you and Freddie smirks. âLooks like Rog is in a better mood.â
âOh fuck off Freddie.â He scoffs, fixing his hair which looks disheveled thanks to you. You give him a smirk as you make your way over to Mary, taking her hand and leading her into the room over.
âSo...â Mary inquires as she sits down beside you on the sofa. You pour yourself some water, offering her some as well which she gladly accepts.
âSo what?â You return, taking a sip of your water. Maryâs eyes go wide, almost dropping her cup. âWhat?â She carefully puts hers and your drink down before grabbing for your left hand.
âWhat is this?â She asks, examining the ring.
âWhat do you think it is?â You canât help but smile.
Mary looks up at you, not dropping your hand before looking to Roger in the studio who gives you a wink. âI canât believe it. The bastard finally did it.â She looks back over to you, matching the smirk on your face. âLooks like he loves something more than his car.âÂ
âFinally.â

Film Recommendations!
I thought Iâd recommend some of my absolute favourite movies, because I love sharing my love of movies and just things in general with people. So, in no particular order, here is my list of recommendations:
1. Tombstone (1993)
So I just watched this movie a couple days ago and absolutely loved it. Yes, it is a western. Do you need to like westerns to watch it? Nope. Thatâs why itâs great. And, itâs based on real people/real events. I sobbed hysterically at the end, but Iâm also a huge sap. Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday is perfection. I love love love him.
Hereâs the plot summary: Wyatt Earp (Kurt Russell) and his brothers, Morgan (Bill Paxton) and Virgil (Sam Elliott), have left their gunslinger ways behind them to settle down and start a business in the town of Tombstone, Ariz. While they aren't looking to find trouble, trouble soon finds them when they become targets of the ruthless Cowboy gang. Now, together with Wyatt's best friend, Doc Holliday (Val Kilmer), the brothers pick up their guns once more to restore order to a lawless land.
Quotes:
âIâm your huckleberry.â
âWhy, Johnny Ringo, you look like somebody just walked over your grave.â
âYou gonna do somethinâ or just stand there and bleed?â
2. Fight Club (1999)
Okay. Okay. I just watched this one, too, and let me tell you. If you havenât seen it/havenât been spoiled for it, you have no idea what itâs really about. Honestly. Itâs so fuckinâ weird and it blew my mind which is something I thought only M. Night Shyamalan could do. Wow, just. . . wow. Watch it, I implore you. I think everyone essentially knows the basic plot, but here it is if you want it, straight from google:
A depressed man (Edward Norton) suffering from insomnia meets a strange soap salesman named Tyler Durden (Brad Pitt) and soon finds himself living in his squalid house after his perfect apartment is destroyed. The two bored men form an underground club with strict rules and fight other men who are fed up with their mundane lives. Their perfect partnership frays when Marla (Helena Bonham Carter), a fellow support group crasher, attracts Tyler's attention.
Quotes:
âYou met me at a very strange time in my life.â
âThe things you own end up owning you.â
âItâs only after weâve lost everything that weâre free to do anything.â
3. Unbreakable (2000)
Speaking of M. Night Shyamalan. While every one of his movies Iâve seen (Split, Glass, Lady in the Water, The Visit) have all been fantastic and mind-blowing, Unbreakable still has my favourite premise and my favourite Shyamalan twist ending. I love this one, even though I donât really care for Bruce Willis.
Plot summary: A security guard, having been the sole survivor of a high-fatality train crash, finds himself at the centre of a mysterious theory that explains his consistent physical good fortune. When news of his survival is made public, a man whose own body is excessively weak tracks him down in an attempt to explain his unique unbreakable nature.
Quotes:
âDo you know what the scariest thing is? To not know your place in this world. To not know why youâre here.â
4. This is the End (2013)
Seth Rogen. Jay Baruchel. James Franco. Jonah Hill. Danny McBride. Craig Robinson. Playing themselves. The apocalypse. Hilarity ensues. Cameos from Emma Watson, Kevin Hart, Michael Cera, Rihanna, Paul Rudd, Channing Tatum, Aziz Ansari, Jason Segel, Mindy Kaling, and the Backstreet Boys. Itâs so funny, I absolutely love it.
Plot summary: In Hollywood, actor James Franco is throwing a party with a slew of celebrity pals. Among those in attendance are his buddies Jonah Hill, Seth Rogen, Jay Baruchel, Danny McBride and Craig Robinson. Suddenly, an apocalypse of biblical proportions erupts, causing untold carnage among Tinseltown's elite and trapping Franco's party in his home. As the world they knew disintegrates outside, cabin fever and dwindling supplies threaten to tear the six friends apart.
Quotes:
âI donât want to die at James Francoâs house.â
âOh, no, no, no. Iâm drinking and smoking weed. Iâm on a cleanse, Iâm not psychotic.â
âTake it easy, Dumbledore.â
5. Youâve Got Mail (1998)
Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks. This might be my favourite romantic comedy, and I watch a lot. Theyâre adorable, and Meg Ryan is everything. This one made me cry twice. Once from sadness, once from happiness. Also it has Dave Chappelle in it, who I absolutely love.
Plot summary: Struggling boutique bookseller Kathleen Kelly (Meg Ryan) hates Joe Fox (Tom Hanks), the owner of a corporate Foxbooks chain store that just moved in across the street. When they meet online, however, they begin an intense and anonymous Internet romance, oblivious of each other's true identity. Eventually Joe learns that the enchanting woman he's involved with is actually his business rival. He must now struggle to reconcile his real-life dislike for her with the cyber love he's come to feel.
Quotes:
âThereâs the dream of someone else.â
âBut I just wanted to say that all this nothing has meant more to me than so many somethings.â
âI love daisies. Theyâre so friendly. Donât you think daisies are the friendliest flower?â
6. A Hard Dayâs Night (1964)
For anyone who loves The Beatles. Here they play themselves, and show what their lives are like. Itâs ridiculous and hilarious and god, if I didnât love them before I loved them dearly after watching. Itâs such a fun, easy watch and I adore it.
Plot summary: Over two "typical" days in the life of The Beatles, the boys struggle to keep themselves and Sir Paul McCartney's mischievous grandfather in check while preparing for a live television performance.
Quotes:
âHow did you find America?â âTurned left at Greenland.â
âHey mister can we have our ball back!â
âYouâre a swine.â
7. Dazed and Confused (1993)
My favourite movie to watch at the beginning and end of the school year, and letâs be honest, every month in between. Iâve seen this movie more times than I can say. I love the â70âs setting, the actors, the plot. Another wonderful, easy watch that just makes me happy. Killer soundtrack, too.
Plot summary: The adventures of high school and junior high students on the last day of school in May 1976.
Quotes:
âYou just gotta keep livinâ, man. L-i-v-i-n.â
âItâd be a lot cooler if you did.â
âI just wanna look back and say that I did it the best that I could while I was stuck in this place.â
âIâd like to quit thinking of the present, like right now, is some minor, insignificant preamble to somethinâ else.â
8. Dirty Dancing (1987)
Anything with Patrick Swayze is wonderful, and this is no exception. Johnny and Baby are perfect. This movie also has the best soundtrack of any movie Iâve ever watched. Fantastic love story, fantastic movie. Watch it.
Plot summary: Baby (Jennifer Grey) is one listless summer away from the Peace Corps. Hoping to enjoy her youth while it lasts, she's disappointed when her summer plans deposit her at a sleepy resort in the Catskills with her parents. Her luck turns around, however, when the resort's dance instructor, Johnny (Patrick Swayze), enlists Baby as his new partner, and the two fall in love. Baby's father forbids her from seeing Johnny, but she's determined to help him perform the last big dance of the summer.
Quotes:
âNobody puts Baby in a corner.â
âFight harder, huh? I donât see you fighting so hard, Baby. I donât see you running up to daddy telling him Iâm your guy.â
âYouâre right, Johnny. You canât win no matter what you do.â
âGo back to your playpen, Baby.â
9. The Sound of Music (1965)
This is such a beautiful movie, and I love it so much. My mom and I try to watch it every Christmas as our little tradition. Julie Andrews as Maria is so wonderful, and all of the songs are so, so good. I love all of the children dearly, and oh, do I love Captain VonTrapp.
Plot summary: A tuneful, heartwarming story, it is based on the real life story of the Von Trapp Family singers, one of the world's best-known concert groups in the era immediately preceding World War II. Julie Andrews plays the role of Maria, the tomboyish postulant at an Austrian abbey who becomes a governess in the home of a widowed naval captain with seven children, and brings a new love of life and music into the home.
Quotes:
âYou cry a little, and then you wait for the sun to come out. It always does.â
âGod bless Louisa, Brigitta, Marta, and little Gretl. Oh, I forgot the other boy. Whatâs his name? Well, god bless whatâs-his-name.â
âI want you to stay. I ask you to stay.â
10. Gladiator (2000)
âAre you not entertained?â I think everyone has heard that line, from this amazing movie. One of the many that has made me cry, itâs such a beautiful story. Also, gladiators. That immediately sells it for me. All of the performances by the actors are top notch as well.
Plot summary: Set in Roman times, the story of a once-powerful general forced to become a common gladiator. The emperor's son is enraged when he is passed over as heir in favour of his father's favourite general. He kills his father and arranges the murder of the general's family, and the general is sold into slavery to be trained as a gladiator - but his subsequent popularity in the arena threatens the throne.
Quotes:
âMy name is Maximus Decimus Meridius. Commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions, and loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance. In this life or the next.â
âWhat we do in life echoes in eternity.â

Survey #227
âitâs my party, and iâll die when i want to.â
Where do you hang your towel to dry after showering? On the rack that's on the bathroom door. What kind of mouse pad do you have? It's just a simple black one. Do you brush your hair with a comb or a brush? A comb. If you had a choice to be a unicorn or mermaid which would it be? Probably a unicorn? Idk. I think unicorns are cooler, but I guess being a mermaid (as depicted in the media, however) would be fun. Can you do a hand stand? No. If you were the opposite sex, how would you style your hair? Fuck man emo hair is the way to go don't even try to change my mind. What movie are you embarrassed to admit youâve watched? None, really. Would you rather spin upside down going 30 miles or drop 400 ft. into water? Well, dropping 400 ft. into water would literally result in your body exploding upon impact with the water; at that height (I'm pretty sure that's high enough, anyway), the water's surface would be like concrete at the velocity you land. Soooo, the former. I'd like to live. What's your favorite shape? "I donât really have one. I guess the shape of womenâs bodies? Like, all kinds of them? Whooooopsie gaysie!" <<<< HAHAHA YOOOOOOOOO THIS. If you were put in a room with nothing except for a pencil and paper, what would you write? Doodle meerkats or write poetry. Do you use deodorant? Does anyone who can afford it and in America not? I'm ignorant to if that's a societal standard in other places in the world. Do you think youâve grown as a person since this time last year? I honestly don't know. If you could change one physical trait about yourself, what would it be? Can I PLEASE weigh around 120 again??? Have you ever gone out with someone you didnât like? Well, I didn't not like him. I kinda had a crush on him in high school for a brief period, but we lost communication throughout school. When he asked me out a few years ago, I only agreed to it as a test, I guess. He was a good person, and again, I had liked him. It was a "get to know one another (again)" thing. It was still very, very unlike me, though; I usually date people only when I know I'm into them. Looking back, it really was mostly an "I don't want to hurt his feelings" thing. What are some of your morals? "I wouldnât say I have any unique morals or things like that. I justâŚdonât do harm and treat people like Iâd want them to treat me." <<<< Pretty much this. I don't see my morals as unordinary. Just hopefully the usual good person. Would you ever take a bullet for your significant other? I wouldn't even fucking hesitate. Do you like your smile, or are you unhappy with it? I hate it. I look high when I smile. My eyes squint too much. If you were starving on a freezing mountain, would you eat your friend? No. Some things aren't worth living after. Out of all your friends, who can you count on the most? Sara. Do people who say theyâre depressed bother you? I actually don't think any other survey question I have EVER come across boils my blood like this one. Fuck no they don't. Depression isn't a goddamn choice. Rot the fuck in Hell if depressed people "bother" you. Their mental illness is far, far, far fucking more an inconvenience to the victim than to you. What do you think of hunting? By this point in my animal/wildlife conservation and welfare eruption, I'm perfectly open in calling you a goddamn asshole if you hunt for any reason other than survival. There is something seriously wrong in your head if you get fucking pleasure out of ending a life without reasonable cause. Damn man, this surveys getting me fired up, lmao. White lies arenât dangerous; true or false? They can be. Do you pretend your crush is with you when youâre home alone? I mean, I can daydream? But I don't actually like, pretend they're present. How many times do you go behind your parentsâ back weekly? Never. Do you tend to go for people older or younger than you? Older or the same age. I don't mind if they're slightly younger though, so long as they're of legal age of course. If you became a doctor, would you help your patients kill themselves? I am 110% in favor of assisted suicide when a patient is diagnosed with a terminal malady. Forcing a human being to suffer 'til their inexorable death via the hands of their illness is, to me, torture. I genuinely do think I'm a very compassionate and gentle person, so while it would be ABSOLUTELY heartbreaking and probably scarring, I actually feel I'd be a good option for a doctor euthanizing a qualified patient. Are you good at haunted houses, or do you scream your head off? I haven't been to very many at all, actually. The one I remember that I've attended a few times, I handled just fine. They're fun to me. If youâve seen it, what did you think of the Twilight movie? I didn't watch it, so I really can't make a fair judgment, but from what I've seen and heard (so take this with a grain of salt), the acting is horrid and the romance is very poorly composed. Would you rather be called babe or darling? The latter. Does the movie Titanic make you cry? Oh Lord, yes. We (surprisingly) watched it during one of my psych hospital stays, and even some of the guys were teary-eyed. What is your favorite thing to do on your phone? Play PokemonGO when I'm in enough of an urban area to be able to lmao. Which Disney princess resembles you the most? *shrugs* Which fairytale seems closest to your life story? Rapunzel being trapped in her home, lmao. What color was your first phone? Hm... I believe it was blue? Was your first phone a flip phone? I don't believe so; it slid upwards. What is your favorite pizza parlor? I'm a basic bitch that finds Domino's to be the bomb diggity. What is an old website that closed down that you miss? Hm... I'm not sure. Well, the site itself didn't close down, the Animal Planet's Meerkat Manor forum and games are dearly missed by me. Have you ever had an embarrassing period story? If so, what happened? Not that I recall, thankfully. What was your worst experience in high school? My depression. How much did your senior prom dress cost you? I don't remember, but I know it wouldn't have been all that expensive. Did you cry at your high school graduation? I only teared up very slightly. Did you cry at your college graduation (if applicable)? N/A, but I'm sure I will out of so much pride and joy. Do your parents try to stop you from chasing your dreams? Hell no. My parents are so, so supportive Who is a former friend that you wish would come back into your life? I miss Megan so, so much. Have you ever been in a serious romantic relationship? Two. What instrument did you play in the marching band? I wasn't in the marching band, but rather the normal one. I played the flute. Who got kicked off of your favorite talent show that you were mad about? Okay, so I remember one year, there was this very quiet, shy, and darkly-styled young man with a love for metal on America's Got Talent. Everyone was expecting a screamo mess, and then he belts out FUCKING BEAUTIFUL opera. Everyone lost it, myself included, and the sweetheart started crying. Sadly, he was eliminated the next round because his nerves got to him, poor thing. Do you own the entire series on DVD of any TV show? If so, what? Meerkat Manor. What show did you always want to be on when you were a kid? None, really. Can you tell the difference between Mary-Kate and Ashley? I think I could as a kid? I haven't seen them in forever and half. Who is your favorite set of twins? *shrugs* What is the grossest thing you have ever vomited up? Idk? Have you ever thrown up in public, in front of someone else? If yes, was it embarrassing? Yes, but I was in kindergarten, so it wasn't too embarrassing. I was just surprised. Did you ever take your dog to school? Whoa... this brought back memories. I believe I did bring Teddy to school one day in elementary school... 5th grade, maybe? I can't recall what the occasion was, though. Name one person you know who had a baby in high school. I don't remember her name. Describe your dream wedding in three words. Autumnal, personal, memorable. What do you hate the most about summer? The fucking heat. What is your favorite thing to do in a swimming pool? Just swim around. Which part of your body is the most muscular? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA BOY I couldn't even GUESS. My legs are recovering from muscle atrophy, so OBVIOUSLY not them. My arms aren't impressive. Neither is my stomach at all. I honestly don't know. What was the last race you ran called? Brittany??????????????? running a?????????????????? r a c e??????????????????????????????? Which major holiday is closest to your birthday? Valentine's Day. Do you find kite flying boring? I haven't done that since I was a kid, but BOY did I LOOOOOVE it back then! I'd probably still find it kinda fun. What is your favorite musical? Musicals make me cringe. Have you ever seen a Broadway show? No. What is the best summer camp you have ever been to? Well, I remember as a kid, one of the vacation Bible schools I went to was pretty fun. It was Hawaiian-themed. Have you ever ran a cash register? Never. Ever. Fucking. Again. Do you like the feeling in your stomach on a big drop on a roller coaster? I've never been on one, but I hate even just the sensation you get when the elevator goes up or down. I immediately get dizzy and nauseous. It's so bad that I even experience this in video games if you have to jump from a large height. What is your favorite roller coaster? N/A How and when were you baptized, if applicable? Hell if I remember. Have you been baptized more than once? No. Would you rather paint or carve a pumpkin? Carve it. Have you decorated for fall yet this year? No. Do you own pumpkin earrings? No, but now I want some. That sounds so cute. Have you ever asked someone to be your Valentine? I mean, not really? I've had s/os on Valentine's Days, so being each other's is kinda just... a given. What was your favorite video game to play with your brother? My older half-bro, when he lived with us anyway, used to play this mercenary game (I don't remember the name) that I LOVED watching him play. Idk why. Really when he played anything I would sit right beside him and watch. What computer game did you used to play all the time? Amazon Trail 3 was my cocaine, hunny. Do you like the name Ellery? I guess it's kinda cute... but it reminds me of celery. Do you find cemeteries pretty? "Pretty" isn't the word I'd use, but I find them aesthetically pleasing. They're more like... mysterious, enchanting. Does your phone screen freeze a lot? Often enough... Who is the better cook in your household? My mom. What by your definition is the naughtiest thing you have done? I guess the time I was entirely naked and him just in boxers going the fuck at each other on the chaise in the living room when we were home alone one night. Or maybe when we "slept" in my sister's room one night (can't remember exactly why) and we just fooled around the entire night instead. He came on her bed multiple times, hence why I guess it fits "naughtiest." (Yes, yes, he cleaned it up, calm down.) I honestly haven't done anything too wild. What is one thing youâd never want your parents to find out? The Joel situation I've told before. Which room of your house are you in? Mine. How many blankets do you sleep under? One thick one. I miss my school lunch menu.. whatâs the fave thing on yours? Okay real talk, my high school chicken sandwiches were The Good Shit. Do you like your best friend's parents? Could you even tell me their names? I love them, and I could, but it's not my business to share that online. Anything silly that annoys you? (I hate hearing nails being clipped) I really hate people going in/out the opposite door. Why are you where you are right now? I absolutely have to take a mental health day from school, so I'm home in my room. Did you used to watch Blues Clues? Of course. What's your opinion on people wearing high heels to school? I feel very sorry for your feet, aha. But I don't care if you do, go for it. What difficulty do you play on Guitar Hero? I used to play like, everything on expert, but now if I do, I can barely manage expert on most and have to do hard. Do you stutter when you get nervous? BADLY. Youâre at the grocery store, what 3 fruits do you get? Strawberries, apples, grapes. If you died next week, what would be the cause of death? Sleep deprivation lmao. Love these night terrors + nightmares. What do you think about dating websites? Whatever. I definitely think there are better, safer ways, but it's not a huge deal. Just go into it with a genuine heart and mind of wanting to find love. There's nothing wrong with wanting a partner to enjoy life with. Do you wear contacts or glasses? I wear glasses. I wish I could do contacts, but noooo sir. I had them very briefly again earlier this year, but I just couldn't; all I could do was feel them there, mainly the weighted one in my left eye because my vision is so bad in it. They just bugged me too much. What is one memory you have from elementary school? Making our own butter in 4th grade came to me first. We walked through school singing this annoying song while we shook our jars. Do you own a pair of converses? A few. How many fridges are in your house? One. Are you easy to get along with? I hope so, but idk. If you were drunk would the person you like take care of you? She's over 800 miles away lmao. What kind of people are you attracted to? Platonically or romantically? Well, with either, I'm drawn to compassion, a tranquil mind, empathy, gentleness, romance if we're talking romantic attraction, a deep thinker, wisdom, creativity, uniqueness/individuality, just, funny, thoughtful, charitable, concerned with nature/love and kindness to animals, intelligence... There's a lot. Do you think youâll be in a relationship two months from now? I don't see why I wouldn't be. Do you like it when people play with your hair? My hair's too short now for that. It'd feel weird. I used to like it, though. Do you think there is life on other planets? Probably. Do you like bubble baths? I don't enjoy baths period. Who are you most comfortable around? My mom, or Sara. Depends on the subject matter. Have any of your exâs told you they regret breaking up? No. Which celebrities would you have a threesome with? I wouldn't. I'm strictly monogamous and to me would feel like cheating. Have you ever liked someone and never told them? Yeah. What do you say during awkward silences? Nothing, but I panic inside. What are you paranoid about? My loved ones secretly hating me or leaving me, being raped, people thinking I'm weird (and not in a good way), stuff like that. Have you done anything recently that you hope nobody finds out about? I don't think so. Been suspended/expelled? For what? No. Been arrested? For what? No. Craving something? What? Nothing. What color are your towels? They're varied. How many pillows do you sleep with? Two. Favorite animal? MEERKATS. Opossums are #2. Favorite character from Mean Girls? I don't remember the characters at all. Favorite actress? Betty White. Favorite actor? BITCH Markiplier, lmao. But okay if you mean a "real" actor, probably Johnny Depp. Last time you were in an elevator? Thursday when I had to go upstairs to my Writing class. It's absolutely humiliating, but I can't make it up two flights of stairs due to my muscle atrophy without people asking if I'm okay. Even going down is dangerous for me because my legs ABSOLUTELY QUAKE and I have to go extremely slow. I go down via stairs anyway though for practice. I'm going to fall one day, I know it. Iâm sure we all know what your name is⌠so, tell us what your bossâ name is? N/A Do you actually read your friendâs surveys, or do you just copy paste them and fill them out yourself? Yes; I love learning about my friends. When you were a kid, which comic strip was your favorite? I didn't care for them. Would you feel guilty about cheating on your taxes if you got away with it? Well yeah. Have you ever thought about getting your lip pierced? It is pierced. What woke you up this morning? A nightmare that resulted in me screaming almost the loudest I ever have in my life. My throat hurt for quite a while. What was your favorite sweet as a child? Reese's cups. Still are. Do you own a lunch box? Yeah. How many times a day do you brush your teeth? Once, oops. If there was a fire, what would you take with you? The very first thing I'd grab would be Teddy, then Roman, Venus, and then my laptop, probably. How many people have the same middle name as you? The majority of the white female population lmao. Does your house have a white picket fence? The backyard does. Have you ever needed to call the police? 911 when we thought my mom was having a heart attack. What are you best at? Writing, I guess.

Sweet Music Playing in the Dark: Ch. 1- Fire Escape (Craquaria)- Dill
hi everyone!! itâs been a while since iâve submitted on this blog, but i decided to give it another go! this is the first chapter of a new fic i wrote a while ago and iâm (finally) almost done with the next chapter! you can find me @ drdill on AO3 as well as the remaining chapters of Home (the first fic i wrote)
I hate elevators.
You wait for half an eternity in the lobby fresh off your 9-to-5, only to crowd into a little 4x6 room just like every tired, irritable person around you, then stop at
Every.
Single.
Floor.
Donât get me started about the summer when sweat becomes a factor. Itâs a free, disrespectful sauna. If I didnât live on the eighth floor, Iâd take the stairs, but what sociopath would willingly do that?
Itâs a Friday in late May, particularly Memorial Day weekend. The chipping cream-colored paint in the lobby paired with dirty maroon rugs welcomes me off the sunny Brooklyn streets. Most people around are eager to escape for the next couple of days, but Iâm sequestered to my apartment to research the new summer color trends. How riveting. The bell rings as the doors open. Walking on quickly, I press the button and seclude myself in the corner. I feel like a fucking sardine, begging no one tries to speak to me as I put my earbuds in. Every âexcuse me,â and quick neighbor catch-up is silenced by Bowie and the drums of âFame.â
Though Iâve never spoken to anyone in this elevator, I somehow know all of them. Thereâs Joanne, whoâs always in a hurry for no goddamn reason, Alan, the workaholic accountant whose undereye bags could be an airport carry-on item, Mike that calls his wife when he gets in the elevator, then gets mad when the signal cuts out, some others whose habits are mildly concerning, and me- the art school dropout. Itâs a melting pot of people pretending to have their shit together until they step foot into this building.
I count the floors: 2, 3, 4, 5, and one by one, they shuffle off while I bob my head to the music. Finally able to breathe, I shift out of the corner when I notice a new guy hiding behind Mike. Heâs shorter, no more than five and a half feet with umber hair thatâs faded on the sides. His wardrobe might as well be a walking Gap advertisement- a powder blue button-up and khakis paired with matching brown belt and shoes. One last person gets off on the seventh floor before itâs just the two of us, causing more confusion when I realize heâs going to the same place I am. Why havenât I seen him before?
Heâs oblivious to my stare, scrolling through his phone. Iâd be lying if I said he was my type, but Iâd be lying more if I said he wasnât pretty cute. His pants hug his hips nicely, showcasing his ass before my eyes wander to the front of his-
Pull yourself together, Giovanni. You canât mind-fuck a stranger in the elevator.
A small hop and the doors open to the eighth floor. He follows me out, still ignorant of his surroundings, ice shuffling around in his coffee as he takes a sip. I reach my door and fumble with the keys when I notice heâs unlocking the door next to me.
ThatâsâŚKevinâs place, as in my very loud, dark-skinned neighbor of 2 years, not this puny white guy. Based on his physique, thereâs a zero percent chance he mugged Kevin, so why does he have a key? When he opens the door I hear him enthusiastically say âHi, Muffin!â
Muffin is Kevinâs cat, so he clearly knows him well enough to be chill with the worldâs most evil cat. Regardless, I get inside, throw my stuff on the kitchen table, and give Kevin a call.
âWhatâs up, G?â He sounds like heâs in a car.
âHey, I just watched a very small white man walk into your apartment way too happy to see your demon-child.â Iâm talking in a low voice as if heâll hear me through the concrete walls.
His laugh erupts through my phone. âIâm sorry, girl. I totally forgot to tell you!â
âKevin if this is another guy you met two weeks ago that âis definitely the one,â Iâm gonna move out. Heâs clearly not your type.â
âCalm down, bitch! Itâs just my friend Max. Heâs moving here from Seattle in a few weeks and wanted to get a feel for the area. I invited him to stay at my place for the weekend while Iâm gone. I just dropped him off from the airport.â
Ah, so thatâs Max. Kevinâs mentioned his friend from college a few times but never gave much description. I was imagining someone a bitâŚtaller. And more muscles for a guy with a black belt. Itâs underwhelming.
âRude of you to leave without saying goodbye, but I guess Iâll survive sitting alone outside.â Kevin and I have some intense solidarity from hating our neighbors and sharing a fire escape. Not a day goes by in warm weather without a quick chat on the metal platform. It all started with a false alarm one Tuesday night, causing both of us to run out like idiots and get to talking.
âIâm just going to visit my fam. My sisterâs been bugging me to come and see her new house.â
I sigh dramatically. âMy blunt and I will miss you dearly, princess. See you Monday?â
âYou bet! Love you girl!â
âLove ya, bye.â
I hang up and think about my next move. Do I go over and say hi? Thatâs way too forward. Do I stay inside all weekend and act like I donât know heâs here? Well, that would just make me a rude fake-neighbor. Neither sound too appealing at the moment. I settle for a compromise: I will introduce myselfâŚtomorrow- let him get his feet wet a little bit in Brooklyn. Iâm sure Iâll be seeing him around more often if heâs moving here soon, anyway. Satisfied with my plan, I make myself a grilled cheese because I havenât eaten since breakfast, and get to work on my research.
â-
Dusk falls over the city and Iâve spent too long staring at Pantoneâs Tumeric and Pepper Stem swatches with reference photos from fashion week. I form a makeshift portfolio for the editors and close my laptop. For finishing ahead of schedule, I roll a celebratory blunt and head for the fire escape.
A deep blue swallows the sky with a bright yellow streak as the sun sets over downtown. The temperature has finally cooled down as I step through my window and touch my sandal on the serrated metal beam. Supporting myself on the railing, I feel the night breeze run across my skin and catch my v-neck before raising the blunt between my lips, sparking the lighter quickly, and inhaling deeply. A quick burn runs through my throat on the first drag, eyes closed as I let the remaining smoke exhale to the sky. The streets are pretty peaceful at this hour, probably because thereâs nothing around me but nail parlors, shoe stores, and boutiques that close at 6pm. My temporary neighbor has been suspiciously quiet all day. Normally I can hear Kevin washing his dishes or watching TV when Iâm out here, so maybe heâs gone out for the night.
Iâm about halfway through my joint when I hear blasting, stark trumpets from behind. Confused, I turn around and detect the sound coming from Kevinâs window, slightly cracked. I creep over to investigate, walking softly so the platform doesnât rattle, slowly peeking through a slit in the curtain to see Max belting what sounds like âBoogie Wonderlandâ and dancing around Kevinâs kitchen. Now I can see why they were friends in college.
Heâs cooking dinner- some type of pasta, adding pepper on beat and shimmying his shoulders. Those hips of his get put to work, scooting across the floor to grab the garlic bread and place it in the oven. Itâs mesmerizing; hilarious, yet adorable, and I canât look away. I start to realize how long Iâve been staring and get out of sight before he sees me. Somehow, Iâm comfortable spying on this man but not knocking on the door and greeting him. Congrats, Gio. Youâre officially a creep.
Max must be in a disco mood when the song fades out and âRelight My Fireâ immediately follows. Iâm giggling at the situation Iâve found myself. This definitely beats the same three Nicki Minaj songs Kevin plays on repeat while he cleans, so I might as well enjoy myself while it lasts. I finish the blunt as I begin dancing around the fire escape like an idiot, bouncing around and singing lightly to myself:
âRelight my fire,
Your love is my only desire,
Relight my fire,
Cause I nee-â
Spinning with my eyes closed might not have been the smartest idea. On my third rotation, my left sandal gets caught on the ladder as I started to move forward. My right knee hits the platform first, followed by my right hand, then elbow, then hip. A loud crash supported by sharp pain in my knee is enough to know I fucked up, and I will probably be getting some company out here soon.
The music ceases. Shit. I hear footsteps getting closer, my back facing the windows. The curtains are pulled back as a voice says âOh my God!â
I look over my shoulder and see Max open the window and pop his head out. His face reads as really confused, but concerned.
âAre you okay?â
âOh! Um, yeah. Yeah Iâll be okay,â I reply as I try to push myself up, hissing when I bend my knee. Looking down, I see a trail of dark red run down my leg. Great.
âHere, let me help you clean that up.â He motions me to come inside the apartment. Knowing that I fully donât own band-aids like a dumbass, I have no choice to accept. I scoot my way over to the window and take his hand.
ââTis but a scratch,â I joke, lifting my leg onto the windowpane. Heâs laughing while gently pulling me into the apartment. I take my previous statement back about his lack of muscles. His bicep is about to pop through the shirt sleeve, and I wouldnât have a problem with that.
âIâm Kevinâs friend Max, by the way.â
âIâm Gio. I promise this isnât a normal welcome to the neighborhood.â Iâm shaking my head smiling.
âItâs better than the homeless guy that showed me a magic trick outside the coffee shop earlier,â he giggles.
He puts my arm around his shoulder and rests his at my waist as he walks me over to the kitchen chair, slowly drops me off, and props my leg on another. The apartment is lit dimly, only the lights above the stove and oven providing a yellow tinge to the room. I see a large pan of chicken alfredo and Iâm suddenly hungry again. He turns off the burner, runs a washcloth under some cold water, and kneels next to me, lightly dabbing the wound to soak up the blood.
âHold that there while I get some ice to help the swelling.â Our hands lightly brush against each other as he gets up to go to the fridge. Iâm trying to understand the amount of care heâs giving me. Heâs such a nice guy; Iâm a complete stranger and heâs treating me better than most of my exes.
He grabs a zip-top bag from the drawer and starts filling it with ice.
âSo, what brings you to Brooklyn?â I ask him, acting like I didnât speak to Kevin hours ago.
âIâm getting relocated for work. The publishing company says they need my âtalentsâ in the New York office.â Heâs using air quotes, blatantly unamused.
âJeez, donât sound so excited about it,â I smirk. He gives a soft smile, closing the freezer door.
âItâs not that Iâm unhappy about the job or moving here, I just want more time write my own stuff instead of editing other peopleâs work.â
âYouâre a writer?â
âTrying to be.â He shrugs, coming back to my side and lightly placing the ice above my scrape. I wince as the cold towel touches my skin.
âSorry.â
âItâs okay,â I reply. âIt sucks not getting to do what youâre passionate about, doesnât it?â
âYeah.â Itâs silent for a little bit- the tales of a struggling artist.
âDo you want some wine? I probably shouldnât drink the whole thing by myself.â
âRed or white?â
âWhite.â
âI could have a glass or two.â He smiles and heads back to the kitchen to get glasses and a wine opener.
âSo,â he says twisting the corkscrew in, âwhatâs your story?â
I sigh deeply. âMoved here from Philly, dropped out of art school last year, havenât told my parents yet, working at a fashion magazine on complete luck.â
âHoly shit, howâd you manage that?â
âI modeled for a photographer to make some money right after I withdrew from classes, and he was friends with an editor there who was looking to hire an assistant.â
âOkay, that actually doesnât surprise me.â
âThat he and the editor were close?â
âNo, that you were a model. Do you want ice?â
Iâm slightly taken back while he pours two glasses.
âWait, what?â
âIce?â
âNo. Well, yes, but no the other thing.â
âWhat? Iâm not blind. Youâre cute.â What a charmer. Iâm looking down, containing the huge grin on my face from his line of sight.
âThank you.â
He hands a glass to me and heads for the bathroom. I shudder when it touches my tongue, further supporting my hate for dry wine. However, itâs free, therefore I will drink it happily. Upon returning, he brings some ointment and various sized band-aids.
âI wasnât sure what size youâd need,â he laughs.
After drying the area around my wound, he applies the ointment, then gently places the bandage overtop. Every action thus far has been with such tender composure, as if heâs performing surgery. Wiping his fingers off, he grabs his wine and sits next to me- not on in a chair, on the floor with his legs crossed. I think heâs suddenly my type.
We exchange stares with silent smiles, finally giving me time to admire his soft, chestnut eyes that crinkle each time he grins, as well as the little, curled hairs resting on his forehead.
âYouâre pretty cute, too,â I blurt out.
âOh, thanks,â he says, a bit flustered at the compliment. His eyes look away, only to avert to my ice pack that starts leaking. I feel a drop of water run down my leg onto the floor.
âLet me get you a new one.â he starts to stand up. âI can get it.â I sit up and reach, getting used to the pain.
Our hands meet one anotherâs again as we grab for the washcloth at the same time. A tension begins to form in the air when we lock eyes less than a foot from each otherâs face. His lips are slightly pursed, breathing heavier than normal.
It feels like slow motion as I lean in closer and shut my eyes. I feel his left hand relocate from my knee to the base of my neck, our lips separated by centimeters, foreheads touching as I feel his breath right under my nose. My lips brush lightly against his when-
DIIIIIIIIING
The oven timer provides as much warning as the fire alarm. We jump away at the sound, hearts pounding from shock. Max starts regaining his composure before jumping up and shutting it off. He rests his arms on the counter, sighing before looking back at me, holding back a laugh.
âI think my garlic bread is done.â His head falls in his hands as he starts to laugh from embarrassment. I join in as I stand up for the first time, limping over to the counter, and grabbing a potholder. He opens the oven door for me, red-faced as I place the tray on the stove, still laughing.
âWould you like to stay for dinner?â He asks me.
âIâve been waiting for you to ask me that since I smelled the garlic bread,â I giggle. He hands me a plate.
â-
I think I stayed at Kevinâs for about three hours. We talked about books, bonded over our dying love for Emma Stone, and gave each other new album suggestions while washing the dishes together. It felt so natural, to the point where we finished the bottle of wine even though I couldnât stand it. A yawn builds up and I curse myself for getting tired, wishing I could stay until the sun rises.
âI think my bed is calling me,â I tell him. He nods.
âI guess Iâll see you around?â
âYeah, and this time, Iâll try not to trip on the fire escape.â His giggle becomes my new favorite sound after hearing it so much.
Our goodbye was a quick hug, nothing more than the attempted kiss before dinner when I duck out the window and climb into my apartment.
Having this one close to home will be dangerous.

On the Verge of a Heartbreak - Chapter 22
Things are really picking up now!!
Pairings:Â Moxiety Words: 3452 Warnings:Â Panic attack/Anxiety attack. Anything else, please let me know!
Summary:Â Virgil is worried and stressed, but his music lessons give him somewhere to escape to.
Virgil was completely unaware as to what had occurred over the weekend with Patton and a bunch of their friends, but he could get the feeling something was just a little bit off or was different.
It was almost as if he could feel each of them watching his and Pattonâs every move, trying to catch them as they were talking alone. At least twice on that first Monday, Virgil had rounded a corner to catch Abigal peeking around it. She managed to laugh it off and come up with some sort of excuse, but Virgil could see past it easily.
He was definitely a little suspicious and more than a little unnerved by this all. He approached Ana about it, but they had no idea what was going on and hadnât really noticed any difference, so Virgil started to doubt himself just a little.
This behaviour continued for weeks with Virgil getting more and more paranoid as the days wore on. Thankfully, he had his space to escape to twice a week with his music lessons.
Virgil pushed open the sound-proof door and immediately felt a sense of relief wash over him. No one would come and spy on him here, none of them would be staring at him and noting down his every move. He could truly relax.
He was a little early, having headed straight there once school had ended, so he set himself down with his guitar and just started to ensure his instrument was tuned properly.
Virgil adored his guitar. If someone were to ask him what he would save if his entire house caught on fire, he would likely reply with his guitar. It was something he was good at, something that he could do to get his mind off everything else in the world, it was something he was in control of. He practiced and cleaned it every day. It was necessary since it was a black guitar, meaning that even the smallest speck of dust or fingerprint would show up, but he loved so dearly that he was happy to simply hold it in his hands.
After checking everything, Virgil leant the instrument against the piano that sat in the room and dug around in his bag for the tattered notebook he still used. He found it and carefully set it up on the music stand of the piano, opening it to a page full of scribbles and doodles. After double checking the notebook was secure, Virgil picked up the guitar once more and began to play.
He easily got lost in the sound. This song had been years in the making. Sure, some of the lyrics didnât work anymore but they did at the time he wrote them, and he really liked the way they sounded. He was finding it was almost finished, but he was just stuck on small details. A few notes stuck out to him and he wanted to change it, some of the words didnât flow as well as he liked, but he was getting there.
Virgil didnât even notice that heâd begun to sing the words under his breath as he practiced and played with the music. He took a pause to dig around in his bag for a pencil in order to change something in his book.
âThat was adorable, Virgil.â
Virgil almost screamed as he jumped violently, his body flinging onto the floor as he toppled off the stool in an attempt to turn around and sit up at the same time.
âOh my gosh! Iâm so sorry!â The voice squeaked, fear lacing every word, âI-Iâll just, just go.â
âNo, itâs⌠itâs okay. You just surprised me.â Virgil was winded from his fall, but he still reassured the person standing in the doorway.
They looked at him cautiously, âAre you sure?â
âAyana, itâs cool. Just, warn a guy next time? Youâre so quiet.â Virgil laughed, trying to lighten the mood.
Ayana closed the door carefully, âSorryâŚâ
Virgil clambered up to sit back on the stool, checking over his guitar that had fallen in the chaos, âAyana, apologies?â
âI knowâŚâ The girl ducked her head, her long hair falling around her like a curtain, shielding her from the world, âI donât need to say sorry so muchâŚâ
They shared a gentle smile as Ayana seated herself on the piano stool, pulling out her own guitar. She was checking it was tuned properly when her eyes caught the notebook that still sat open on the piano. As nervous as she was, Ayana felt comfortable enough with Virgil to lean in and get a closer look. She only read a couple of the lines before she realised this was the song sheâd walked in on Virgil playing.
âSo⌠whatâs this song for?â She asked, her curiosity not yet satiated.
Virgil quickly but carefully grabbed his notebook and put to his side, his cheeks turning redder with each passing second, âItâs nothing, just something Iâm messing around with.â
Ayana flinched at his sudden movement, âIâm sorry, I didnât mean to pry⌠Itâs just⌠it was beautifulâŚâ She looked up through her hair again, âIt sounded like you were addressing someoneâŚâ
Virgil looked away and scoffed, face burning brightly even through his usual layer of foundation, âUh, why would I do that?â
Ayana shrugged and made a soft non-committal noise, turning her attention back to her own guitar, âMaybe you have someone you care about⌠and you want to tell them⌠and the best way, you feel, is through musicâŚâ She strummed a few notes, her body visibly relaxing. She continued on to play a song.
Virgil watched her through the corner of his eye for a moment, before turning to fully look at the girl. Heâd noticed over the years that theyâd shared music lessons that Ayana became a totally different person when she played music; she became confident, at ease, relaxed, and it inspired Virgil - not that heâd say it aloud. He understood her, music made him feel entirely different. The only way Virgil could describe it is that he felt like he lived in a different world when he played any instrument, but Ayana was the one to truly show him what that looked like to the outside world. He wanted to show that to people, show people the power that music could have and what it can do to a person, how it can help those struggling the most.
A sudden snap and off-key note snapped both of the students out of their music-induced haze. They stared at the now broken guitar string in surprise. Ayana turned into a statue, looking at the broken string like it was about to attack her and she had nowhere to go.
âAyana? Are you alright?â Virgil asked gently, trying to catch her eyes once heâd noticed she wasnât doing so well.
Her voice sounded a little watery, âMy brotherâs going to kill me. Oh my god. Oh my god, Iâm so dead.â Ayana started to ramble, just repeated over and over how she was doomed, how upset her brother was going to be, all the bad things that were going to happen to her. Tears began spilling down her face, splashing onto the polished wood of the guitar and her legging-covered legs.
Virgil wasnât sure how to handle this situation. He was only now able to handle his own panic attacks, but heâd never tried to help anyone else. He knew he had to try, especially as Ayanaâs body began to shudder and rock back and forth. Virgil knelt down in front of her, gently placing a hand on her knee before walking her slowly through some calming exercises heâd been taught by his therapist.
Once sheâd calmed enough to stop repeating and was breathing properly, Virgil reached into his guitar cover, âYou know, if you need to replace it, I have spares.â Virgil held up the small ring of guitar strings that heâd fished out from the front pocket.
Ayana looked at him as though he were an angel sent down to save her in this exact moment. She let him take the guitar from her grip and he got to work replacing the broken string. She watched over his shoulder as he went about restringing the instrument, âAre you sure itâs okay? I donât want to take your thingsâŚâ
Virgil breathed out a laugh, âItâs fine, honestly. I offered and you were completely out of it and upset. Thereâs no way Iâm letting you leave being so freaked out.â Behind him, he could just about make out Ayanaâs soft âthank youâ. It took very little time before the instrument was back in Ayanaâs hands, âThere, as if nothing ever happened.â
The boy moved to sit back up in the stool, his eyes catching on his beaten-up notebook. He glanced between Ayana and his book, thinking hard. Did he want to involve her? He knew she wouldnât tell on him or spread it around and he could use a second opinion⌠especially consideringâŚ
âHey, Ayana?â
The girl lifted her head. She was in the middle of retuning the guitar and Virgil felt a little guilty interrupting her.
âCan⌠you help me?â
The shy girl looked at him in surprise. âMe? Are you sure?â At Virgilâs nod, she put the guitar down, resting it up against the other side of the piano, âI, I can try⌠What is it?â
Virgil moved his stool closer to Ayanaâs and flicked open his notebook to that page he had open when sheâd walked in, âFirst, you have to promise to not tell anyone about this, okay?â
Ayana nodded and held out her hand, pinkie finger extended. Virgil couldnât help but grin at her playfulness. He linked his finger around hers and they shook on it.
âOkay, so⌠this song,â He held the double page open between them, âIt is for someone⌠Itâs, kinda⌠for PattonâŚâ
Ayana made a soft squeal-like noise, âThat makes it even more preciousâŚâ
Virgil ignored her, âAnd, Iâm kinda just⌠stuck, yâknow. Some of these words donât work, and some of the notes just⌠feel⌠wrong. And I donât know how to end it⌠Do you think you could help?â
âCan IâŚ?â The younger girl asked, indicating she wanted to hold the notebook. Virgil released it to her, watching every moment she took intensely. He appreciated that she was so careful with it, as if she might cause it to dissolve by handling it too much. He watched as she pulled her hair away from her face to read the book sheâd placed across her lap. There was a fairly long nervous silence as Virgil waited for her to speak again.
âCan I hear it again? Is that okay, Virgil?â Ayana asked suddenly. She followed it up almost immediately with, âItâs completely fine if you donât want to. I just think, it would be easier to hear it, see how it plays, how you play it, all that. But itâs fine, really, you donât have to. I was just wondering!â
Virgil laughed again, used to her sudden nervous outbursts. He picked up his guitar and positioned himself comfortably, âItâs cool, I donât mind playing. I did ask you to help.â
He took a steading breath to calm the nerves that were buzzing around inside him. This would be the first time anyone but himself had heard this song, he never practised it out loud when his parents were home for fear of them asking questions or talking about it to Patton. But this was his chance, and he knew he shouldnât waste it.
So, he began to play. He played the song just as heâd written it, all the bits he wasnât a huge fan of and all the bits he loved. He felt himself getting lost into the music once again, but this time he wasnât alone. Virgil knew Ayana was there with him. Part way through, he glanced up and saw her sat in front of him with her eyes closed, moving in time with his playing. Virgil found it endearing and continued.
The song ended abruptly. Virgil lay his hand down on the strings, quieting them. He raised his other hand to scratch at the back of his neck, âSo, yeah⌠you can see that itâs, kinda unfinishedâŚâ
Ayanaâs eyes now shone as she looked at him, âHeâll love whatever you do for him, you know that, donât you?â
Virgil blushed and ducked his head, fiddling with the strings a little, âI mean, I guess⌠but I want to, make it perfect. It has to be perfect.â
Ayana simply smiled and began to try her hardest at helping Virgil with his song. It wasnât the perfect way to go about this, considering both of them were anxious messes who didnât want the other to think they hated their ideas and were struck with paranoia with every attempt at constructive criticism, but they found a rhythm eventually. They worked on fixing what Virgil felt was wrong, starting with the lyrics. Ayana seemed to have a natural talent for working with lyrics and words, which surprised Virgil, but he greatly appreciated it in this moment.
Both students seemed to forget they were meant to be having a formal music lesson at this time and were entirely lost in their creative process. The teacher watched and listened through a crack in the door, a pleased smile on their face. Something about this was wonderful to them, their two best students working on their own project together, without the need of their help. The door was shut quietly, and the teacher returned to their office a little way down the hall, letting the pair continue their work.
It was only once their session time was over that the teacher returned to the room. They still found the two working on their song, but this time they needed to interrupt. As they stepped into the room, the door was left to click shut on its own. The sound caused both students to jump and turn to stare at their teacher.
âIâm sorry you two, but itâs time to head home. Sorry I didnât come today, I was swamped with just so much work.â The teacher lied, trying to quell the worry they saw on the two studentsâ faces. âBut I see that you two found something to work on today, which I am very proud of. I hope youâll be willing to show me?â
Both of the kids shared a nervous look. Virgil looked away first and nodded, settling back into the most comfortable position for him to play. The teacher rested against the wall next to the door and watched their student.
The song lasted for a couple of minutes, but Virgil was feeling his nerves throughout the entire thing. This was entirely different from playing it to Ayana; she was a friend that he knew really well, someone he trusted a lot. His music teacher was different. Yes, heâd known them for longer and yes, Virgil definitely trusted the adult, but he still wasnât completely free emotionally to the teacher.
But he played his song, he played it as best he could through the nerves. He found them fading as he worked through it, finding his confidence with each passing strum and word. By the end of the song, Virgil had almost forgotten he was playing to his teacher. Almost.
There was a beat of silence once heâd finished where he looked up to the teacher through his hair, awaiting critique. Instead, Virgil got a smile and a light applause.
âThat was beautiful, Virgil. Did you two make that up right now?â
Virgil shook his head, âN-no⌠Iâve been, sorta⌠working on it, for a while, and stuff. I just, uh⌠I asked Ayana to help, because I was stuckâŚâ
âWell, you two did a wonderful job. Iâm sure whoever youâre going to play this for is going to be pleasantly surprised.â
Virgilâs head snapped up and his eyes widened in fear. His face burned brightly again, âW-what! Who said it was for anyone?!â
His teacher laughed, âVirgil. Teachers pay attention. Iâve seen you and your friends around, Iâve seen you with Mr Ashworth. I promise, I have not told a soul and I promise to never tell a soul about this.â
Virgil was speechless. People knew?! Teachers knew?! What the hell! He turned to Ayana, looking at her wildly as if he expected her to debunk that people were able to see his crush but she just avoided his gaze. âAyanaâŚ?â His voice was quiet and dangerous.
âIâm sorry!â She squeaked, ginger hair coming to fall around her yet again.
Virgil groaned, his head falling into his hands. âEveryone knows⌠donât they?â
Ayana made a noise that confirmed his theory and Virgil just about died then and there. There was a hand on his shoulder that had Virgil raising his head once more, just to be greeted by his teacherâs face. Virgil pouted, waiting for another bought of ridicule.
âVirgil, you have nothing to worry about.â His teacher said, hand falling back down to rest on the ground where theyâd squatted to reach his eye level, âI shouldnât really say anything about this because itâs none of my business, but-â Virgil had to bite his tongue as he wanted to fire a sarcastic retort right back at his teacher, who simply continued, âI can assure you that Mr Ashworth is showing just as much interest in you.â
This was the first time someone had outright told him that Patton seemed to share the same feelings, and suddenly Virgil felt different. He still wasnât entirely convinced, but he was sure that was the pessimist in him, he was oddly feeling more confident in his own personal observations.
âWell, itâs really time to head home now, you two. Donât want you getting locked in here with us.â Their teacher stood, straining as they put effort into getting up off the ground.
The two students gathered their things, thanked their teacher and walked out of the school. Virgil was silently thinking over everything that had happened recently, while Ayana kept glancing at him. Virgil kept noticing her out of the corner of his eyes, but he didnât want to pressure her into talking.
âVirgilâŚ? Are you okay?â
Ayanaâs soft voice surprised him, even though he was waiting for her to speak, âHuh? What? Oh, oh yeah, Iâm⌠fine. Totally fine.â
Ayana slowed down, causing Virgil to stop a little way down the path that lead out to the car park at the front of the school, âIâm sorry I didnât tell you about everyone else⌠I didnât want to scare youâŚâ
Virgil opened his mouth to reassure his friend, but she stopped him quickly, âPlease donât interrupt! I donât think Iâll be able to say this again if you doâŚâ Virgil nodded and stayed silent.
âI could see it from the first time you brought Patton over. You seemed so much happier, so much more relaxed⌠and it was clear it was Patton. And he seemed extremely happy to be with you too. Youâre both sweet with each other, both understand each other so well and, the teacherâs right, you two both obviously like each other. That was why I asked about the song when I heard it⌠I knew before you even told meâŚâ Ayanaâs eyes were trained on the ground as she rattled off her speech. She looked visibly upset, âIâm really sorry, VirgilâŚâ
Virgil understood her up until her final apology, âWhat are you sorry for?â
Ayana shrugged, âFor not telling you soonerâŚâ Her eyes flicked up to him as he snorted at her confession.
âAyanaâŚâ Virgilâs arm came to rest around her, giving her a gentle one-armed hug, âYou donât need to be sorry about that. You didnât wanna stress me out or anything, I understand that. Youâre good, weâre good. If I was upset, do you think Iâd do this?â He ruffled her hair wildly, causing her to squeak and wriggle away from him with a laugh.
She couldnât help but smile at him, âNo⌠I guess notâŚâ
âExactly. Now, get out of here. Your parents will start coming for you again.â
Ayana suddenly tensed again before she began running towards the gate. She turned and waved at Virgil as she left, which Virgil returned. He knew she wanted to stop her eccentric parents from embarrassing her yet again, but he still couldnât help but laugh. He headed home, his heart feeling a little lighter and his head swimming with information.
Everything was almost ready. He just had to figure out when to do it.

Long Road Ahead (Chapter Two)
Estelle Finley has been friends with Ashton Irwin and Luke Hemmings for three years. When the boys bring her along on a jam-packed road trip to Cape Cod with the rest of the band, their adventures are just beginning. Through long hours driving, exploring cities, and hidden secrets, something more is bound to happen on this journey. How will this road trip change Estelleâs friendship with the friends sheâs come to love so dearly?

{Chapter One}
LUKEâS POV
The sound of a song brought me out of  my sleep. My eyes adjusted to the sunlight shining through the window. Ashton was still asleep in the bed next to mine. I forced myself out of bed, following the sounds of a piano and soft female vocals. I stopped in the kitchen doorway. Estelle was humming along while cooking, her long blonde hair free from the usual braid it was in. She was in her favorite summer pajamas, the white lemon set that Crystal had gotten her for her birthday last year. I couldnât tell what she was cooking, but she looked stunning in the morning light. The chorus of the song she was listening to came and Estelleâs voice took over in my ears. Her tone was clear, but still had a rasp to it that took my breath away. The lyrics of the song hit me and I realized why she was singing along.
âAnd when I donât belong, oh you say I am yours,â she sang beautifully.
I took a few steps into the kitchen, tapping her phone to see the song. âYou Sayâ by Lauren Daigle flashed on the screen in front of me. I looked up to see Estelle staring at me.
âDid I wake you?â she asked, turning the volume down.
Her light green eyes were full of concern and it made a warmth come over me.
âYeah, but itâs okay. What are you cooking?â I asked, nodding behind her.
âOh, Iâm making organic waffles for myself and Crystal and whole wheat pancakes for you and the boys,â she said, turning back to flip a pancake.
The way she moved through the kitchen was graceful and made it look like she was gliding across the floor. Estelle started humming again, her voice just a little louder than the music.
âLu, can you take out the raspberries, blueberries, and the bananas please?â she asked, snapping me out of my trance.
âSure. Want me to get anything else out?â I asked.
âYeah. Can you grab the milk and orange juice too?â she asked before giving me a smile.
I set it all out on the counter for her before returning to my seat on the barstool. Estelle pulled a cutting board from a drawer after switching off the stove. It felt like she was moving in slow motion as she placed the plates full of food on the counter.
âWhyâd you make breakfast?â I asked while she chopped up the bananas.
âBecause I thought it would be nice and itâs my way of giving back to you guys for bringing me with,â she said, her voice light.
I was taken aback by her words. It never ceased to amaze me how down to Earth she was.
âWhatâs that look for?â she asked, pulling me out of my thoughts.
âWhat look?â I asked, trying to shake away the smile I knew was on my face.
âThe one that makes it look like you donât know me,â she said simply.
The smile that came across my face was one that only Estelle seemed to bring out. It always seemed like I couldnât help my emotions around her.
âIt still takes me for a loop sometimes,â I said, still watching her intently.
âWhat?â she asked, cocking an eyebrow and tilting her head.
âThat despite your parentâs wealth and privileged upbringing, here you stand, kind, calm, and completely different than everyone else Iâve met that was given the same life as you. Iâm astonished by your grace and how humble you are when you could have been a snobby brat,â I said, our eyes meeting.
An appreciative smile came over her face, the light of it meeting her eyes. Yet another reminder that the woman in front of me was remarkable and absolutely beautiful inside and out.
âWho knew that Luke Hemmings could be so insightful?â she teased, making me laugh.
âI would hope that you of all people would know how insightful I am by now,â I fired back.
Her laugh flooded my ears causing me to smile again.
âAnd I thought you would have known by now that I am more than my parentâs money,â she said, her eyebrow quirking up again.
I shook my head, but the smiled remained. Our eyes met again before I laughed, but the spark of the eye contact still took me by surprise.
âYou really are something else little dove,â I said watching the slight blush come over her cheeks.
âAnd youâre a giant dork giraffe,â she said, lightly biting her lip when she looked up at me.
It was my turn to blush from her nickname for me. While Estelle wasnât incredibly short, five eight at best, it was her petite nature that made her little. I started calling her little dove a year ago, after I heard her sing for the first time at an open mic. Naturally, she followed my lead by calling me giraffe. It was something so small, but completely ours.
âEstelle, you didnât have to do all this,â Crystalâs voice came in, taking the small moment away.
âItâs no problem,â Estelle said, a small smile thrown towards Crystal.
The rest of the boys followed behind her, each of them giving their own greeting when they walked in. My eyes never left Estelle though as she smiled and brushed off compliments from everyone like she was a beauty pageant contestant.
                            â˘â˘â˘
âSo whatâs the big plan again?â Estelle asked when she came back into the living room after getting ready.
My breath hitched as I took in what she was wearing. It was simple, but the way the green high waisted shorts and white cropped tee looked and fit on her took my breath away. She had brown sandals on and her hair was braided into loose pigtails.
âCrys and I are going to the zoo,â Michael offered while looking up at his girlfriend with a giant smile.
âLuke and I are hitting up the aquarium,â Ashton said glancing up from his phone for a moment.
Estelle plopped down by Calum and looked up at him.
âIâm thinking botanical garden,â Calum said giving her a smile.
Estelle practically lit up at the sound of it.
âIâll go with Cal. Anything else?â she asked, the happiness evident in her tone.
âGateway arch with everyone at like six,â Ashton said tapping away at his phone.
The sound was getting on my nerves, but I was doing my best to let it go.
âSounds good. Plans for dinner?â she asked as Calum wrapped an arm around her shoulders.
A slight spark of jealousy shot through me even though I knew that there was nothing between them. It was a friendly gesture and meant nothing more than just making sure they were more comfortable next to each other. That didnât stop the jealousy from slightly rising in me though.
âMikey suggested Blueberry Hill to me early. It sounds really good,â Crystal said looking over at Michaelâs phone to double check that she was correct.
âI was thinking about going to Piccione Pastry after dinner,â I said, finally speaking up.
There was a moment when I wished that Estelle would have decided to come with me and Ashton, but I knew how much she loved flowers and the idea of seeing some of the most beautiful ones in the midwest would be something sheâd jump at.
âI am so in for pastry after dinner Lu,â Estelle said, leaning over to look at me.
Her voice cheered me up slightly, but there was still something running through my head that wouldnât leave me alone. I was unable to decipher what it was, but it was causing me to be uneasy around Estelle and Calum.
âThose are both in Delmar loop,â Ashton spoke up.
âCal, if we get done early, can we head over and ride the trolly?â Estelle asked, excitement dripping from her voice.
âWhat if we all meet up at four to go on the trolly?â Ashton suggested after catching me tense up at the thought of Estelle going on the trolly with Calum.
âEven better!â she cheered happily.
âAsh and I better head out then. The aquarium is going to take a while to get through,â I said, getting off the couch.
There was an uneasy feeling that came over me at the sight of Estelle and Calum. It felt like I couldnât be in the same room as them anymore. Ashton followed after me, still quietly tapping away at his phone, no doubt handling some band business that he didnât want us to worry about. We were just about to open the door when I heard quick footsteps coming after us. I turned just as Estelle reached us.
âHave fun and take lots of pictures for me yeah?â she asked, a giant smile on her face. Vacation did look oh so good on her.
âOf course little dove. See you at the trolly,â I said, giving her a gentle kiss on the cheek.
She had a blush on her face before giving Ashton a hug.
âYou have fun too. Bring your camera okay bugs?â he said, poking her nose quickly before we headed out.
                            â˘â˘â˘
ESTELLEâS POV
âEstelle, look at the arch!â Calum said, a couple feet ahead of me.
My eyes followed to where he was pointing. There was an arch with flowers growing around it and intertwined with it. It was stunning. The way the vines went through the lattice holes and then wrapped around reminded me of a wedding arch. The different colored flowers worked together to make it look like a sunset though and it made me want to take all the pictures in the world.
âCal, go stand under it,â I said, picking up the camera that was around my neck.
He groaned, but did as instructed. He tucked his hands into his pockets and gave me the same model face he always did.
âHey Cal,â I said, still snapping away.
âWhat Es?â he asked, face not changing in the slightest.
âA bird is gonna poop on your head,â I lied, but he still looked up allowing me to get the shot I wanted.
âYouâre a little shit,â he said, laughing a little when he looked back down.
I took a few more of him smiling before putting the camera down.
âItâs what Iâm good at,â I teased, walking to meet him under the arch.
There was a slight romantic element to the whole garden and in that moment, I wished Luke would have been here to see it with me. That he was the one I was snapping pictures of instead of Calum. That we could have been the ones walking around, being goofy like all the other couples that seemed to just pass me and Calum by.
âAmong other things,â he teased, throwing a wink my way.
My breath left me at the remark, my mind going back to a slightly drunk moment three years ago.
âDonât,â I said, tone firm and annoyance clear.
âWhyâd you come here with me anyways?â he asked, turning so he was walking backwards and still looking at me.
âI wanted to see the flowers and I wasnât about to barge in on Mike and Crysâ alone time. Iâm always with Lu and Ash anyways,â I explained, taking a few more pictures while we walked.
âYou sure that you didnât just want to get me all alone again?â he asked, his voice dropping to a husky tone.
I had only heard him use it once and I knew what he was trying to do.
âThat would imply that I had any sort of non-friendly feelings for you, Calum, which you know damn well that I donât,â I said, keeping my voice even and steady somehow.
I felt his presence behind me, him having turned to follow behind of me instead of leading me. A feather-like touch was against my arm before Calum turned me around to face him. We werenât completely covered, but I could tell that Calum didnât care.
âReally? Because when you and Crystal were driving, you said that you didnât have any feelings for Luke,â he whispered, hands coming to grip my waist.
My breath hitched as he spoke softly in my ear.
âI still remember how you moaned underneath me Elle,â he said, fingers digging in a little.
The nickname wasnât lost on my ears, Calum being the only one to ever use it.
âI lied to her,â I said, pushing him away from me, the need for space away from him intense.
His eyebrows knitted together and he stared in confusion before we started walking again. Calum was still fairly close to me, but it felt more like out of comfort than out of hopes of having sex again.
âI lied to Crystal. I have a lot of feelings for Luke. I lied so I wouldnât get my hopes up that Luke felt the same,â I admitted, playing with the silver ring on my finger.
âWhy?â he asked as we stopped under a gazebo.
It took me a second to realize that Calum was asking out of concern and not, why wonât you have sex with me. Calum knew that lying wasnât something I did often, in fact, it was a rare occurrence for me. I hated whenever someone lied to me about something that was important and I knew that my omitting that I had lied was throwing him off.
âBecause I refuse to lose the friendship I have with him if it doesnât work,â I said, taking a seat on the bench closest to the water.
âBut, Elle, you donât know that it wonât work,â Calum argued, all of the seduction gone from his tone.
He was a little farther away now, opting to remain close, but not close enough that I could feel his body heat.
âDo you know how many people Iâve felt this way about just to lose them because of little things I had no control over?â I asked, my eyes watching the lily pads float on the pond.
âNo,â he said quietly.
I wasn't usually this open with Calum, choosing to be vulnerable around Luke and Ashton only.
âFour. They all decided I wasnât good enough or that if I wouldnât give them money, they didnât need to stick around. I will not go through that with Luke,â I said, a few tears welling up in my eyes.
âLuke isnât like that and you know it,â he said, gently putting a hand on my thigh.
âI do, but Iâm not going to risk it.â
                            â˘â˘â˘
LUKEâS POV
The sea lion tunnel loomed over me and Ashton. I pulled out my phone, snapping a few pictures for Estelle.
âLuke, weâre almost done. Ready to go to the loop?â Ashton asked, standing by the end of the tunnel.
âYeah. Just one minute,â I said, eyes scanning the creatures beyond the glass.
There was something so serene about just watching them swim by. A small part of me wished Estelle would have come with so I could share this moment with her. I took a few more pictures before meeting Ashton.
âWhatâs on your mind?â he asked after we went through the gift shop.
My gift bag with a small sea lion in it swung by my side as we walked.
âHonestly, Estelle,â I confessed with a sigh.
âLuke,â he started, but I raised my hand to stop him.
âI know. I know I shouldnât have her on my mind and that having feelings for her is stupid, but I canât help it Ash. This morning before you all came in, it was like we were meant to be together in our own little world,â I said, climbing into the cab.
âYou said it yourself that she doesnât have feelings for you,â he chided.
âThat hasnât stopped me from falling for her,â I said, sending Estelle the pictures I took for her.
âDude, we need to get you laid then,â Ashton said making me laugh.
âWhy?â I asked looking over at him.
âWe need to break your Estelle spell,â he said like it was obvious.
âAnd how are we doing that?â I continued staring at him like he was crazy.
âYou, me, and Calum are going out,â he stated, pulling out his phone to search for a club.
âAsh, thatâs not necessary,â I argued, watching as St. Louis went by.
âOh, but it is,â he retorted, tapping away.
I saw the trolly as we pulled up to the neighborhood. There were colors everywhere, different storefronts with lights in their windows, and murals on what looked like every wall. It was a sight that I wanted to memorize, to keep forever. My heart leaped when I saw Estelle with Calum on the street staring at a map.
âLuke, come on,â Ashton said, already out of the cab.
âRight. Thank you,â I said, quickly getting out.
âLu!â I heard Estelle squeal.
I put on a big smile for her before returning the hug she gave me.
âWhatcha got there?â she asked trying to peek into the bag.
âA surprise, so youâll have to wait,â I said, the tension I had been feeling earlier now gone in her presence.
âDoes that mean itâs for me?â she asked swaying on the balls of her feet.
âMaybe. Did you take lots of pictures today little dove?â I asked, seeing Ashton bring up his phone for Calum to look at behind Estelle.
âYeah. Iâll show you them when we get back. You know what we should do?â she asked, leaning into me a little.
âI have no guesses,â I said, the scent of her apple citrus perfume hitting me from proximity.
It reminded me of home and how even her apartment smelled just like her. I leaned into her a little more, letting the moment happen and not caring if it would hurt the next day. It didnât go unnoticed by me that to anyone passing by, we looked like a couple.
âSneak into the pastry shop and get gelato,â she said, a hint of mischief in her eyes.
I couldnât help the laugh that left me. Of course Estelleâs sweet tooth would come out while being so close to the promise of ice cream.
âCome on,â I said, giving in instantly.
No matter how hard I tried, I couldnât say no to her. We walked side-by-side into the little shop. Estelleâs green eyes lit up at the array of flavors in the case.
âWanna share one Lu?â she asked while considering every flavor she could see.
âAs long as you donât hog it all,â I teased nudging her a little.
âVanilla and mint chip?â she asked, her smile wide.
âYou know the way to my heart,â I joked making her laugh.
I didnât have to see her face to know that she was rolling her eyes. Before I could pay, Estelle already had the five dollar bill out and was tipping the cashier.
âEs, you didnât have -â she cut me off by handing me a spoon with vanilla gelato on it.
It was something so small, but sharing the gelato with Estelle meant a hell of a lot to me, even if it didnât mean a damn thing to her.
                           â˘â˘â˘
âSmile!â another tourist said, taking a picture of all of us with the arch in the background.
âThank you!â Estelle gushed, getting her phone back from the person.
The arch really was a sight to see and as I looked at it I was overcome with wonder. How much of the world had I seen without really seeing it?
âLook alive mate, Estelle is taking a band picture,â Calum said, bringing me back to reality.
I wrapped my arms around my brothers, smiling wide at Estelle. There was something about this moment that made me highly appreciative of the people I had in my life and the ability to have such a gorgeous vacation.
âI love you guys,â I said, looking at each of the guys that had become my family.
âAww Lukey, I love you too buddy,â Ashton said, squeezing my shoulder gently.
âSo, movies for the rest of the night?â Estelle asked when her and Crystal joined us.
âActually, weâre going out,â Ashton said, taking Estelle by surprise.
âOh. All of you?â she asked, her eyes drifting towards me.
âMikey is gonna hang back, but Ash and Cal wanted to have some fun so Iâm gonna go with them,â I said, catching the way she frowned for a moment.
âOkay,â she said, starting to twirl the ring on her finger.
She always did it when she wanted to say something, but didnât feel like it was okay or the right moment. I wanted to ask her what it was, but I knew it would be useless in front of everyone.
âWe can watch movies without them Es,â Crystal said wrapping an arm around her shoulder.
âYeah we can,â Estelle responded with a nod of her head.
I didnât miss the look Estelle gave me when we got into the car or the one when we got back to the apartment and I went to go get ready. We werenât dating, but it was moments like these that I wish we were so I didnât feel like I was doing something wrong. I was waiting for Ashton to finish up when I heard Michael and Crystal leave. Without thinking, I went to Estelleâs room. Her door was open as was the balcony door. She was sitting on one of the chairs, her hair down again.
âEstelle?â I called, unable to help myself.
âLuke,â she responded, barely turning to look at me.
She was mad at me and I could tell instantly. No nickname, no eye contact, and no giant smile meant just for me.
âYouâre mad. Why?â I asked, still in her doorway.
âBecause my best friend has decided that getting drunk and getting laid is a better way to spend his vacation than with his friend that he already barely sees,â she said, a bitterness to her tone.
âEstelle, this has nothing to do with you or spending time with you. Cal and Ash wonât be long,â I said, trying to make it better.
âYou lied to me at the arch,â she said, turning to look at me finally.
Her makeup was gone, her eyes a little red. There was definitely something else bothering her than me going out.
âEstelle, I-â
âIf you wanted to go fuck some girl you wonât remember tomorrow morning, you could have just said so,â she fired, bringing back the argument we had a week prior.
âThatâs not what Iâm doing okay? Iâm going to make sure those two donât get shitfaced,â I said, finally walking to meet her.
Her eyes met mine, the hurt even more evident in them. Something was bothering her and I wished that I had the balls to ask what was going on.
âI thought this was supposed to be a vacation?â she asked, wiping at her cheek.
How long had she been crying that I hadnât noticed?
âIt is and tomorrow, Iâm all yours at City Garden,â I said, gently putting a hand on her knee.
âIâm gonna make you pose for so many pictures,â she said, a small smile finally coming out.
âI canât wait. I wonât be gone for hours on end. I promise,â I said trying not to react when her hand came to rest on top of mine.
âOkay,â she said quietly.
âWeâll talk tomorrow okay little dove? Get some rest,â I said, pressing a kiss to her hand.
âGoodnight Lu,â she said as I got up to leave, the nickname catching in my ears.
âGoodnight Es,â I said, giving her a smile before heading out.
âReady Luke?â Ashton asked when I met him and Calum in the hallway.
âYeah. Not too long and no girls,â I said after closing the door.
âBut Luke-â
âNo breaking my spell. I donât need it to be broken. Estelle Finley might not be in love with me, but Iâm in love with her and I have to work through it on my own.â
Ohhhhhh boyyy. Where are we headed? Well I know. But youâll have to wait! I hope you guys are enjoying this and remember if you want to be added to the tag list, let me know!

Just as the clouds shrouding the city in mist had so subtly predicted, it had began to rain, and it had began to rain mercilessly.
The raindrops fell from the clouds, plummeting towards Younghyun's bangs at a lightning pace as if the seemingly harmless, rolls of white and grey had finally reached its breaking point and decided to offload their anger on the public.
Gradually, with each droplet gathering into one big puddle, and escalating into a waterfall, he could see the drops draping precariously on the rough tips of his brush shaped bangs, as if he was wearing beads on the tips of his hair.
Younghyun sighed as a song he held dearly to his heart, the song that spoke for their hustling generation, Forever Rain started to play, perfectly in sync with the now, unlike him. He had sighed a lot of times today, but that was most probably, his expression to life most of the time.
His songs, too, were sighs of his own. Younghyun's self written songs were never a voice of his own-they were simply a insignificant puff of hot steam, emanating tiredly into the air like a ball of wispy feathers only to disappear into thin air two seconds.
This song on his phone too, was a sigh.
A beautiful sigh.
Just like you
If I could
Just knock on somewhere
If I could kiss
The whole world so hard
Would someone welcome me
Maybe embrace my weary body
His pretty, gradually angled eyes looked up to the sky with the gaze of a baby lamb-innocent and demure. The world seemed to stop for him as he saw the beautiful teardrops of the sky pour down, knocking furiously onto his shoulder and asking for an invitation to come in.
The clouds were of white, grey, and dark grey hues, all layered vaguely together in a gently fierce gradient as their feelings oozed out onto the lamp posts, from the tips of Younghyun's raven locks to the edges of his tailor made black shoes, skimming to the depths of the drain.
The sky when it cried was so beautiful, and so unjudgemental to whoever it poured out its feelings to.
However, beneath the curtain of his clustered, jet black hair hid Younghyun's gentle sigh-in the knowledge that he'd never be able to do the same with his group members.
Still, for the first time since he had come to the thriving, fast paced city of Seoul, Younghyun felt raw, enveloping love drip through every vein in his blood as he stood upright amidst the care of the rain, and listened silently.
____________________________
"Younghyun! What the heck, why are you standing like that there? You're a soaking mess, get over here!"
Revelling in the quiet of the rain caressing his ears gently and quickly, Younghyun hadn't noticed anything amidst his little zone of peace until his ears opened before his eyes did. Standing across the road was a tall figure with a striking, red umbrella domed over his even more striking blonde bangs.
"Wait, I'm sorry, I just-" Younghyun struggled to gather his words, scrambled across the road like the rain puddles as he broke from his standing position, with rising fear of disappointing his friend in his chest.
"You don't have to apologise. I know you've always liked the rain, you told me that." Jae laughed in his low, boyish voice before placing a hand on Younghyun, who had finally came back to reality and started to approach his friend. Knowing very well that it wasn't the reason for him standing there, the younger boy couldn't help but feel a pang of guilt surface to his forehead as he nodded slowly.
As both of them walked to the venue with a sudden, yet somehow not so awkward silence hanging around them, Younghyun knew, with an uneasy feeling in his heart-that someone that took to socialising like a duck to water, would never understand the pleasure of having something as insignificant as the rain to accompany them.
"H-Hyung?"
"Yes?"
"Have you ever felt lonely before?"
The squeaky sound of Jae's rubber soles ceased with his question, and they stopped walking, in sync with the previous calmness that had soothed Younghyun.
Filling the awkward silence was the pattering of raindrops, crashing louder on the field of ridges in the pavement but a little softer on their umbrella.
Suddenly, the rain didn't seem so comforting after all.
"Lots of times." Jae suddenly spoke to break the silence, with an unreadable, blank expression on his face. Not being able to see a smile spread across his dashing, clear cut features felt very foreign to the younger boy, and seeing Jae feeling lonely, felt just as foreign to him.
Surprise was evident on Younghyun's face as he susceptibly raised an eyebrow.
"You're joking." he said disbelievingly.
Jae shook his head quietly. "No, I'm not."
He looked to the floor with an unusual maturity emanating from his gaze, and paused for a bit before speaking again.
"Just because I have a lot of friends doesn't mean I don't feel alone."
Instinctively and unconsciously, Younghyun's lips parted ever so slightly, gaze transfixed sharply onto the sad sliver of light skating across the curves in Jae's small, miniscule pupils.
He never really saw Jae this sad over something as small as being alone. Over being away from home, sure-over occasional fights with members, sure-but never, the hollowness of not having someone by your side.
Then, an uncheerful-maybe even condescending, maybe even bitter laugh slipped through the gaps of Jae's loosely clenched teeth.
"Ah, Younghyun, I really, really can relate to All Alone more than you think I can." he said, tone a lot more gentle than before before continuing, "It's funny, isn't it? When you have so many people surrounding you but it makes you more lonely than you were before."
Slowly recalling the sting of past incidents, Younghyun found himself nodding as he replied, "Yeah. It really just feels like...just feels like..."
"No one really cares."
The same words had come out from the mouth of two seemingly different people.
Then, with a brief exchange of glances, Younghyun started to giggle with an understanding, almost happy feeling in the crease of his eyes, and in turn, causing Jae to giggle back.
They both stood stupidly in the crowd, in the prominent presence of the storm clashing behind them-laughing, laughing and laughing, before reality hit their smiles like a brick and put a halt on their silly fit.
"H-Hey, Younghyun-or should I say, Brian-" Jae teased, with the corner of his smirk digging a small dimple at the side of his lips and earning a slap from Younghyun- "whenever you feel lonely, talk to me, yeah? We can be lonely together."
Casually, he hung a lazy arm around Younghyun's shoulder, eliciting an endearing, hearty laugh from the younger boy.
In turn, Jae's smirk softened to a smile.
"I'm totally cringing at myself for saying this, but-I'm always there for you."
Feeling the warmth amidst the cold weather beneath the laces and crosses of Jae's soft, red jumper, Younghyun's heart blossomed a small spark of warmth himself-a warmth he had never felt upon arriving in Seoul.
"I'm always there for you too, chicken-hyung." he smirked, masking his gratitude well and subsequently, arousing a strong reaction from Jae. "Hey, excuse you, since when were you-hahahahaha-allowed to-HAHAHAHAHA-tickle me?!"
In the rain, as two children played, beneath his squeals of laughter Younghyun thought inwardly-that if this was really the after effects of the rain, he wanted it to rain forever.
THE END
